DH is pushing to get rid of the binkies. I'm not so sure if we are ready. Ainsley especially is hooked on hers, she has it all the time. Part of me would love to be done with them, but I also am scared of life without binkies.
So, if you took them away after say 18 months, did naps end? I can't deal with that. If naps will probably end or get really rough, I'm not going to do it.

we got rid of soothers at christmas, when the boys were 2 years and 2.5 mo old. Naps are still as great as ever! getting to sleep was challenging, but honestly it was only for the first 4-5 days and it got better each night.

we encouraged our boys to leave their soothers for santa claus. anthony thought it was a great idea and put two pacifiers on the plate of cookies! we coaxed ethan to leave one, and he did reach for it back once, but they were both pretty proud to leave them for santa!

With my oldest we gave her paci to Santa Claus right after she turned 3. Before that though starting in the summer she only had it for sleeping times. She did not end her naps right away when we got rid of her paci. I would say she ended her naps about 6 months later and mostly because I was working then and my mom had her during that day along with some other nieces and it was just too much going on for her to take a nap. I know she was no where near ready to give up her paci at 18 months.

Ditto to Fay's post, except mine were 18 months. We just got rid of them two weeks ago. Our naps are going strong, but we did have a rough few days. Since the boys were 18 months, we went cold turkey. My calm relaxed child didn't really miss it, but the other was not a very happy camper. But it took about 4 days and everything went back to normal.

For us it was the end, and quite honestly it took them a full month to get over the loss of their pacifiers. So clearly my girls are "special" -- it's been rough. Everyone said, "piece of cake" and quite honestly it wasn't. For us. YMMV.

Question is, will it be easier now than later? Maybe.

We were losing the nap anyway -- they were only napping about 50% of the time. Now it's 0%. Maybe you'll be better quitting binkies now...you probably know best. I had a pretty good suspicion that we'd never nap again. I was right it appears.

DS gets a paci in his crib only. I am scared to take it away becaseu I don't want to disrupt sleep. I just can't see taking it away righ tnow. I think we'll wait a bit.

My son gave up his paci right before his 3rd birthday. He still does an afternoon nap.

I thought taking away Nicole's paci at 18 months was going to be BRUTAL. She was so addicted to it. However, the transition was pretty easy. She was teething big time and she managed to chew up her last paci, and I had explained that I wasn't buying any more after that. She understood and after only a few rough nights, she was fine. She was always a good napper, and her napping continued until just before she turned 3 years old. Getting rid of them now will be easier than waiting IMO. Even if you have a rough time with naps for a while. Very few children drop naps that young. Good luck. :D
