Actually, Susanna asked it in the other topic and since it's a decision I'm struggling with, I thought it'd be worth making it a topic of its own...

So... those of us that had c-sections w/the twins... what are your thoughts/plans on the vbac c-section debate??

Gee, I'll respond here since I started it in the other thread... I'm going for VBAC. My practice has 8 doctors, and so far every one that I have met has not only given the go-ahead for it, they've actually brought it up themselves and encouraged it. So I feel good about it. But I have already delivered an 8lb baby vaginally...so I do have a history that indicates it won't be a problem. In general, they say if the reason you had your c/s no longer exists then you might be a good candidate for VBAC...like if the only reason you had the c/s was b/c you had twins and their positions.

There are certain cases which I would not try VBAC for... like if you tried vaginal before and spent 3 or 4 hours pushing and just could not get the kid out... or if you had any other incision besides a horizontal...don't think most docs would let you try it anyway. Or if you or your baby have some other health risk. Otherwise I would go for it..

My doctors have told me they won't induce.... and if I get to 40 weeks and absolutely nothing is happening then I will have to have a c/s. If I'm starting to have contractions and starting to dilate, then they might give me a bit just to help things along. So I feel good about this conservative approach.

I'm going to do a c-section again. Just because of issues with the cancer that I had and my eyes and stuff. The Dr.s said that they dont want the blood vessels around my eyes to get strained if i push. So...anyways....that's that and we're goin scheduled c-section.

I'm going to have a scheduled c-section. Honestly, they never told me that I couldn't try a VBAC but when I told them that I would prefer another C my doctor said, "Oh good". I had pretty bad pre-eclampsia last time so maybe that has something to do with their reaction. I had a fairly easy surgery with the girls. I was up the next day, was home in four days and my recovery wasn't bad. That's why I chose this route again. It's really a personal decision. When I was pregnant with my girls I considered a vaginal birth and then they were transverse and I hada c-section. This time I really have no desire to try a natural birth but that's just me.

I am attempting a VBAC. My c/s with the girls was mainly due to their positions and an antsy peri. That was perfectly fine by me. I was antsy too and just wanted them here safe and sound. My c/s went great, I recovered quickly and have no real lingering effects (aside from my terrible twin skin). However, I still want to try for the VBAC. I couldn't bf the girls due to no supply. There are several factors that contributed to that and a c/s was just one of them. I'm trying to eliminate as many of them as possible to hopefully give us a better shot at nursing this time. I also just want to try. I want the experience.

I'm seeing a practice that teams up midwives and OBs. The midwives see you throughout the pg unless you need to see the OB for some reason but have the OBs to review questions/cases as needed. The MW will meet us in L&D when we get there and stay by our side the whole time. So far, I am very, very satisfied with this arrangement and am very excited for my next MW appt tomorrow.
