I was eating chips with a pretty spicy salsa yesterday at a restaurant, when I suddenly thought, " Oh no, if spicy food can help labor start when you want it to, could it also start preterm labor?" I didn't eat anymore salsa, and of course I was fine, but I was wondering if anyone had been advised by a Dr to lay off spicy food while pregnant? I've been super paranoid about everything since I found out I was pregnant, and really wish I could be like so many moms who don't seem to worry at all about miscarrying or something going wrong. Maybe it's an infertility thing, and feeling like this is "it".

My spice eating level has got too high since I got pregnant. My Dr told me to be careful with spice if I get heartburn..but she didn't say anything abt early labor. If u don't get heartburn..I think ur okie. Enjoy..:)

I've craved spicy foods throughout my whole pregnancy. So did my mom and aunts. None of us seem to have had a problem with it.

I need spicy food (anything spicy!!) and if there isn't, I can't swallow my food down. Doc's not concern of preterm labour, but heartburn, like what kash said. So eat away momma!!

I think it is an old wives tale that spicy foods may make you go into labor. I would be more worried about the gastric upset they might cause, but if it is not a problem for you so far than I wouldn't worry about it. :)

I agree, my husband is Indian so we very often eat really spicy foods...I haven't had any problems.
