When did you start giving your children food with some spices in it? I'm specifically thinking about chili mac and taco meat. Both of these things are pretty mild at our house. The girls are 13 months old (11 months adjusted). Would you start trying things like this with them now?

If you think that they will be okay, I would try. My DD is prone to diaper rash when she has acidy (tomato) or spicy (mild) foods, so we kept spices to a minimum. I can't see mild spices being a problem, I am curious to see other answers myself!

I have spiced my kids food since they started table food. Sometimes it was milder than ours (curry & such) but from the beginnning.

    Spice in nice :)

Go for it! By that age they had already tried lots of seasonings. They have really surprised me with some of the strong flavors they like: pepper jack cheese, spicy (vegetarian) "sausage," plain grapefruit...

I started pretty early on with spices -- as soon as the kids were eating meats and veggies (even pureed), they were spiced. But I'm Indian, and I can't fathom eating bland food, so I wouldn't feed it to my kids. :D

I'm sure they'll be fine if you start slowly!

Like pp, we started the kids on the spicy stuff when we started table food. They loved pepper, garlic, and curry right from the beginning. They had some diaper rash early on from salsa and tomatoey stuff, but other than that no problem. Now they eat anything--Ronan has an odd love for pickled ginger in particular :D .

Probably the sooner the better because if you wait - they don't want ANY flavor!! Like mine!

Do it! The sooner the better. One of Cody's favorites is chili-mac.

We started pretty early, and the girls actually prefer things with a little flavor to them and won't touch plain meat.

We started with spices as soon as they could eat table food. I have one daughter who loves spicy food and another who spits out anything with the least hint of flavor. Odd, huh?

Mine love spicy things, give it a shot. Taco's, salsa, spagetti sauce, breakfast sausage, onions, etc. I always tell them if its too spicy just drink some water, they think it is fun!

We tend to cook with alot of spices, as soon as they were on primarily table food (about 12 months) they've eaten what we have. I do tone down the hot spices in my chili and spagetti a little bit for them and DH and I just add hot sauce to our individual plates but otherwise they enjoy a variety of spices and flavors.
