While one of my kiddos is holding Spencer and cooing and loving all over him, I'll take a minute to pop in and tell you about my new cutie.

I went in Friday morning to be induced. I still wasn't effaced enough to have my water broken, so Pitocin it was. It took a bit to get that going, because the nurse couldn't get the IV in, so I had to wait for the IV specialist. That finally happened about 9:30. So for a few hours we sat and talked and walked and rocked and such as we waited for things to get going. Gradually the contractions built and eventually things started to progress to where I was more than happy to have an epidural. Crazy thing is, it only worked on my left side. So I spent awhile laying on my right side, for gravity to help. Eventually, it seemed to. After laboring awhile more though, it wore off. They boosted it, I spent more time on my right, and that's the way the day went, with me slowly dilating. Eventually, as I was really struggling, I was finally to 10cm. But Spencer was sunny side up, and his head was kind of stuck on my pelvis. My midwife said to try to push, and suddenly I had a room full of people. His heartrate dropped way down and everyone told me I had to get him out. But he still wasn't dropped. They gave me oxygen and I got on my side and that helped his heartrate. The midwife also was trying to get him to twist face down like he was supposed to be. All this time, my left leg was useless, but the rest of me felt everything. I have to say, I have no idea why anyone who had actually gone through natural childbirth would want to attempt that again. But then I'm a weanie!!! Anyway, I was pushing and he was still SSU and not getting his head in the right position to come out, and his heartrate was iffy... so the midwife suggested calling the Dr. and using the vacuum to get him out. I don't know how long it was before he actually got there, but I'm sure it was the longest ____ minutes of my life. At one point I asked her how long he was going to be and when she said she expected him any minute, I told her I thought she was lying just so I'd keep working, LOL. Finally, he showed up and with a few mighty pushes and him with the vacuum, Spencer rotated and was born. 7:37 pm. He'd had meconium in his fluid (my overbaked baby), and didn't cry right away, so they took him and sucked him out. But pretty quickly he was screaming, which has to be the most wonderful sound in the world!!! I did end up tearing and getting stitches (OW!), and managed to break a bunch of blood vessels in my eyes, from pushing. So I'm red and puffy from top to bottom, LOL! But Spencer is perfect. He's just gorgeous!!! He has soft, blond hair, wonderful kissin' cheeks and his daddy's nose. He was 8#8oz and 21", so my biggest baby.

Fred went and got the other children and brought them to the hospital late that night. They all were just in awe of him, especially the girlies. Spencer has huge hands, for a newborn and they're honestly not much smaller than Sabrina's tiny ones. She just went on and on about his "teeny tiny ears" and his "teeny tiny nose" and teeny tiny everything. The kids all were jostling to get to hold him, and even now, it's fun to see how happy they are to just sit and snuggle their new brother. They all visited again on Saturday and when they went to leave Sabrina burst into tears. I asked her what was wrong and she said, "Trey said Spencer's not coming home, he has to stay in the hospital!" She was so distraught! So I explained that he and I were both staying for one more night, but we were going to come home with her the next day. Such a flood of relief, she was just sure we weren't going to get to keep him.

They do tend to kick you out of the hospital pretty early now, but I didn't come home until Sunday afternoon. Because of the weird issue w/ my epidural, my left leg didn't work for hours and hours afterward. I could stand on my right leg, immediately afterward. But it was about 14 hours before I could do anything w/ my left, and even then I was pretty shaky and it was tingly. What a bizarre sensation. It's like all the epidural for my whole body (and all the bolstering trying to get it to work right) all went to the left thigh or part of my spine that controls it. But it's all fine, we're home, he's nursing like a champ and life is good. I'm a mama to SIX!!! Guess I need to fix my signature... maybe tomorrow.

Thanks guys for thinking of me, and making me feel so loved!

Congrats Dielle!!! I'm glad everything worked out and he decided to come out naturally...lol! Bummer about the epidural. Same thing happened to my cousin when she had her twins...it only worked on one side. She was not happy about it either.

I can't wait to see pics! I bet he's adorable and the kids sound like they are so great with him already!!! Congrats momma and HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPENCER!

    Congrats!!

With Tyler the first epidural didnt work so they took that one out and stuck me again. With that one ot only works on one side. Finally it kicked in on both right before I started to push but the Dr. had to stand there the whole time pushing more meds in b/c they refused to go in on their own. CRAZY!
