Speech eval on Long Island/ Plainview/Woodbury

I am a little concerned and having an eval of both babies.

How do you pick a therapist? Is it word of mouth? Ped rec'd agency? Which therapist at that agency?

Are there sub specialties? Is everyone at an agency new and looking to get the experience====Not that
that is always a bad thing ,I'm sure.

Any advice would be appreciated

For an eval, I would just call your local hospital that has a speech department. How old are the twins? If they are under 3, you can get a free eval through Early Intervention--your local elementary school special education department will have the number. If they are over 3--or within 3-4 months of turning 3, you can call the special ed department, and request and eval. If your only concern is speech, I would suggest a private eval at the local hospital--they will be quicker, and will refer you onto the special ed. department if they feel your child will qualify.

 

Since I think your twins are under 2, I would call the EI, or speak to your ped.

Thanks for the responses. My twins are 19 months old and were full term with no health concerns.

Ped. rec. an EI agency. They are going to do the eval soon.

Once they do the eval is it just up to accepting whoever is sent to do the therapy?

Not to sound stupid but how do I evaluate the therapist(s).

Do people get to know popular therapists like popular piano teachers. Maybe I am getting ahead of myself -but I can't help but wonder about who will be helping my children.
