Just wondering if anyone can share experiences regarding soy formula? My babies are very gassy and just seem uncomfortable. My pedi recommended switching to soy. Soy was my last resort as I've read some controversial stuff about it...increased amounts of estrogen causing early puberty in girls and infertility in boys. But if it will help make my babies more comfortable I'm willing to try it. So far formulas we have tried are-similac advance w/early shield, similac sensitive, enfamil gentlease, and we are now trying good start.
All 5 of my kids were on soy formula at some point because they had difficulty tolerating(gassy, spit-up) milk-based formulas.
For some reason my both my boys couldn't tolerate milk based formula so I put them on soy. It helped them both alot, and I was worried about using soy formula because of the stuff I had read about it, but my pedi said I shouldn't worry about it. They both did great on it, and I don't regret my choice. I use Target brand soy formula...it has the exact same ingredients as Enfamil does.
Both my boys are on Soy (I was in the same boat as you and felt the same way) but it fixed our problem… just an FYI my husband was a soy baby… and I conceived the twins on BC so I don’t think he has fertility problems…
my twins are both on soy formula. ds was put on it in the hospital because he was projectile vomiting. when we signed up for WIC it was easier to put both babies on soy. dd was still gassy even on the soy though. we use Similac Isomil Advance. tanya
We've been using Similac Isomil Advanced Soy since the girls were about 2 months old & they have done GREAT on it :good:
DD was on soy from two to five months... then we switched her to Gentle Ease. I wish we had tried that first, but I didn't know about the controversy about soy at the time... She did good on it though. Have you tried lactose-free formula? We switched DS to gentle ease at two months and it helped his gas problems a lot. On a side note, you can't really see if a formula is helping before a few days, so you might be switching too fast.
both my kids were on soy and did great.. to the poster about milk intolerance - excessive spit up (the day before my pedi told me to switch to soy my son threw up every single bottle we gave him with the exception of one - and I think that was because he was so hungry he just digested it!), excessive gas (DD had the gas issues) really nasty poop (think bright green and seedy)... DD was a new baby on soy after just 24 hours - it took DS about a week before he really started feeling better!
My babies have been on Good Start for a while now, they do have the funny poop, the occasional spit up, and the gas issues. They had reflux but I stopped the meds for that and they don't seem to have those symptoms anymore. The main issue now is that they just wont eat. They are hungry and ask for the bottle, then they take a few sips and stop, and it takes almost a full hour to feed them. It's really frustrating. Now I'm wondering if it's upseting their stomachs. Could switching help?
