When did you ditch it? We didn't turn it on tonight and they still aren't sleeping. It's not like them not to fall asleep right away for night time sleeping.

Mine are 3.5 and we're still using it. I'm scared to ditch it!!

I just plugged it back in and they fell right asleep. I didn't think this was going to be so hard. Looks like ditching the binkies and sound machine are going to be a challenge.

I think I'm going to at least wait until they have the rest of their teeth... my dd has been waking a bit b/c of teething her 2nd yr molars... and we still have to go through my ds's too. I might try to quit it after that.

We're still using one here too! :wavey: I am thinking about taking the ceiling light out of their room and installing a fan. This will give them some white noise as well as cooling them in the summer. In the winter we have a humidifier going to alleviate Nate's eczema, and it's so much louder than the white noise machine that we could probably just use that!

My DH and I use the white noise (aka the fan) machine for us. We are afraid to wean ourselves.

26 months here and still using it. For me, it's more the fear of them hearing me and not wanting to go to bed or getting up too early.

Prior to having kids, we had a dog for over 12 years. She would sleep in our bedroom and we would hear her all night long. When she died, it was soooo quiet and it drove me crazy. I was going to buy a sound machine but eventually got used to it. Now, my room is close to theirs so I can hear it when I go to bed and it helps me sleep.

Don't know when or if I'll ever get rid of it.

I've read that to wean off the sound machine, you should turn it down a tiny bit each night until it's off.

I'm also planning to keep using ours indefinitely. There have been so many times it has saved the babies from waking up, even one night when I burned dinner and the smoke alarms went off!

Thanks ladies! I turned theirs back on last night. I felt like I had to be super quiet around the house and plus, the didn't sleep. As soon as I turned it back on they fell right asleep. I sleep with a fan on as well, so I guess it's genetic. ;)

We still use ours, I can not imagine getting rid of it anytime soon. It used to be in our room until the boys were born, now they have it. I've had people babysit the boys at night and I make sure to tell them to TURN on the AIR CLeaner, they will tell me it would be a short time later and wonder why boys have not fallen asleep and they realize, DUH they forgot to turn the machine on and the boys fell asleep soon after...it really is smoothing to them, we will keep using it as long as we can until the boys tell us they no longer want it.

I don't see why it has to be ditched. It's not a problem for me to let them hear it and it does seem to help them. It's not unhealthy for them like a paci will become eventually, so I don't plan on getting rid of it unless I have to.

We still use ours in the nursery and in the master bedroom. I can't sleep without it anymore. We plan to use them indefinitely.
