I'm looking for a sound machine for the babies and they all seem to have a timer for 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes. Does this mean that they turn off after 1 hour, or you have the option of setting the timer to turn off if you want it to? My babies like having something playing (right now, we're playing a cd with white noise), but after it stops playing they wake up! So, I'm trying to find something that will play all night.

    Thanks!

I think setting the timer on them is optional. We have the cheapy Homedics one from Wal-Mart. It has a timer, but even it is an optional setting. We love ours and have used it pretty much all night every night so far. I find that it muffles the other household noises so we don't have to worry about the dog barking or the tv volume so much.

We have this one by Homedics in the boys room. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. It has a timer or you can set it to run all night. Love it. :good:

I think most white noise machines will stay on forever if you want them to. The timer is probably optional. We have two different ones, and they both operate like clock radios (in fact they also have a radio setting) -- we just leave them on all night and manually turn them off in the morning.

I have the Sound Sleeper from BabiesRUs in the girls' room and LOVE it!! You can set it to timer or just run it until you shut it off. We have run it all night long since they were first in their room. It has a few different sound settings also. I can't speak highly enough about it!!

We use a small fan, they are easy to replace if you need them and could serve a multi purpose to circulate air in the room.

I have the Homedices sound and lullyby one from Bed bath and beyond. LOVE IT!!! It has a projection screen that spins on the wall or ceiling and has 3 lullybys and 3 white noice (ocean, rain, and heart tones). It has a timer or just push the on button and it stays on until you turn it off.

We also use the sound sleeper from BRU that Michelle had suggested. There is a switch on the back that gives you the option to have it continuous or have it shut off in an hr.

We have one we got from Brookstone a loooong time ago and it has cartridges with different noises. Some of the wave noises are creepy, but our favorite is the frogs. We turn it up loud enough in their room so we can hear it through the baby monitor so we're not missing out on our white noise generator either!

I thought I was the only one who turned it up that loud. My MIL always sneaks in and turns it down when she is here and always complains about how it's too loud but they like it that way.

We have an air purifier that we bought before we had kids to help with the dander of my cats so it would be more bearable for my brother who is allergic to visit. Didn't help but it has a good white noise affect to it. We used with our ds1 till he was 3 1/2 and now the twins use it. It helps circulate the air too which is good. I have it on pretty loud so it muffles any other household noises.

I have a Timex alarm clock that also plays nature sounds for the girls. It has the option of staying on continuously too. I used to just put it on ocean sounds, but then they discovered it makes other sounds and we switch it up. I need to get one for Caleb too.

My girls are 5 1/2 months, do you think I could start using a white noise machine now or are they too old. I already play music, but I heard that the white noise is better.

We didnt start using white noise until the boys were about 18 months. We were using a lulluby CD to turn on and run until they fell asleep. I decided to use white noise to drown out more of the sounds in the house. So, no they are not too old.
