my LOs have been extending their morning naps. i feel so badly waking them up, then they're cranky. our once 2:00 nap that lasted until 4 is now becoming more and more difficult. the kids are having more issues falling asleep and haven't been falling asleep until 345ish. it lasts for an hour if i'm lucky!

    any tips? thoughts? ideas?

try pushing their morning nap back a little at a time...say by 30 minutes. i would push their morning nap back and let them sleep for as long as they want. then skip the second nap, but put them to bed earlier.

If they don't sleep as long in the morning you could still put them down for an afternoon nap that day. Or you could go out for an outing and they might fall asleep in the car. That can help them make it until bedtime.

I would go back at least 30 minutes from when you put them down for the AM nap. If the nap is not as long as you like, then I would put them to bed earlier OR if they are acting tired and sleepy in the afternoon, I would attempt an afternoon nap.

I agree with the 1 nap decision that all posters are agreeing to. We are in the same transition - a little farther along. We are getting to 11 am about every other day, btw 90-3 hr nap - then still bedtime at 6:30 because they just can't last. It took us weeks to get here...just don't expect miracles overnight. If you don't think they can go to one nap yet, you could try waking them from that morning nap after 1 hour to preserve the afternoon nap. That is from HSHHC. It worked briefly for a couple weeks, then it became very clear that the answer was to move to the one mid-day nap. The problem was that my sleeper would try to survive all day on that one morning nap, where she would always dependably take two before. Good luck!

I agree with moving it back at least 30 mins if you can, longer if possible but don't let them get over tired. And I agree it's not an overnight thing, it took several weeks to transition mine down to 1 nap to where they weren't getting tired super early, and were taking a decent nap.

My kids get up around 10am, go down for their nap around 2-2:30 pm, and get up around 4:30 or so, with bedtime being at 9pm.

My daughter is going onto 14 months old now and has been on one nap for several months. With the twins they were great nappers and kept 2 naps for a long time. I found 10 am nap and she would often sleep 2.5- 3 hours. Our bedtime has always been 6 pm. I like having this alone time in the evenings.

i just posted about how it went today
i put them down at 11 and they napped until 12:45. NOT as long as i had hoped of course, but i'm holding out for it to lengthen like you ladies said it would. (one day, lol)

their bed time was bath around 715 and they were passed out with their bedtime bottle at 730.
