    Hi,

I noticed this morning that Ruby's neck is looking really sore, it's abit like a rash or chapped skin in the creases of her neck. She is drooling alot because of her teeth maybe that has caused it? Does anyone know what i can put on it? tia

We used either Aquaphor, Vaseline, or A and D cream. Something just to create a water resistant barrier will help.

My girls get this too, and the best thing I've found over here to use once they've gotten raw is just plain old Sudocrem. (Or however you spell it...lol) I put it on really thick at night, and then try to keep one of those Tommee Tippee milk bibs (the kind with the fat roll around the neck) on them when they are awake. Another place my girls get it is in the creases of their elbows, armpits and knees. My GP says it's just contact dermatitis (from any kind of moisture, drool, pee, sweat, etc), and they can give you a bath additive called Oilatum and a cream called Aqueas Cream BP, to help avoid them getting it on the first place. Both things are totally unscented, and have no colors so if your girlies have sensitive skin, it's great for them.

Edited because I used the wrong "your" and it would have driven me nuts! :D

Sarah's neck was like that for a few months until she learned to sit up unsupported. She had a very fat neck and there were some places where her skin simply didn't get any air, ever. The ped told us not to worry as long as it was just red, but didn't look infected. We tried to wipe her really thoroughly after eating and whenever else she looked messy (drool, etc.) and dry the area well each time, and we put Aquaphor on it when we remembered.

My guys got this so bad, and then they developed the dreaded neck cheese!! (Google "neck cheese" to find some very funny posts, one from a fellow MoT.) Aquaphor really helped; you'd think that keeping the area dry would be better, but lubing it up does the trick. As a PP mentioned it creates a water resistant barrier. Besides, it's impossible to keep their neck folds "unfolded" to dry them out.

At 10 months old my boys don't get neck sores any more, but they sure do collect food in there! I think I found 2 puffs and a half-chewed carrot under Nate's chin last night!

I'm glad this question was posted because my girls are just showing this this week. But I am replying to you Nate and Jack's Mom because I read your last line and I am laughing so hard I am almost crying. Thanks - I needed that - I have wondered myself what I will find someday in my chubbier LO's neck folds...

I'm another vote for Aquafor! That stuff works amazingly well on all sorts of skin irritations!
