Hi, my girls are almost 3 and have their soother (baby) at nap and bedtime and long car rides. Which is fine, except that when we take it away when they get up the reactions range from fine/cranky to whiney and today totally hysterical hitting, screaming crying. What is the point in having the calming baby if its **** when they don't have it. they seem over it now 45 minutes later but freaked both this morning and after nap which is more than I can deal with today.

On top of it all they were screened by early intervention and they think they need real assessment they are leaning towards high function autistic, but say with help they would out grow the diagnosis. I am a little stressed and today just topped the cake so I though I would share and ask anybody kick the soothers in a situation like this?

    Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry you're having a stressful day. First of all, do you want to limit their babies to just naps and car rides? I find mine are cranky when they wake up from naps and take a while to fully wake up. They bring their puppies with them to readjust. Do you think it would help them transition to keep their babies with them? On the second topic, the EI staff should not be making that diagnosis for your twins. They could tell you what behaviors they are concerned about it, but only a MD could truely make that diagnosis. Take it with a grain of salt, but I hope they get the help they need.

This morning Sohphie spat out her soother when she was done snuggling and went off to play and Anya handed it over when I asked nicely. Maybe they were still half asleep yesterday! Either way today looks to be better :) Also I wondered after the explosion yesterday if an ear infectin was brewing, cause they have had snuffly runny noses for over two weeks now, I checked their temps and the both had low grade fevers (should have known) we see the doc after the long weekend.

So I am letting them keep them for sleeping, no more for car rides and shall go from there.

Are you talking about pacifiers? Sorry just a little confused if you meant pacifiers or baby dolls. In either case, if you are ready to be done with them because they are more hassle than any soothing they may provide, then it's time. I reached that point with pacifiers because I was tired of having to keep track of them, find them in the car after they had been thrown, etc. We told them that the pacifiers needed to go to new babies, packed them up in a box, taped it shut, and I got in the car with the box and took them to the new babies (DH was home with them). They asked about them a few times, but it's gone amazingly well. First night they fussed, but never got hysterical. I am very glad we did it.

I was confused as well. I thought the soothies were baby dolls. Glad it was easier today and hope they're feeling better.
