So my dr just called me an hour ago and left a message on my voicemail saying that twin A (baby girl) is measuring a week and 1/2 smaller than she should and that twin B (baby boy) is measuring pretty good, just a week smaller....but she and the peri are saying that twin A (girl) stomach is measuring smaller than her head which indicates possible asymetric growth restriction (sp?) and that they want to monitor me much closer with more tests....HUH?!?! Does this mean that there will be problems with my little girl now and later (after birth?) I'm just sooo sad right now....what could have caused this? Am I not eating enough? Is my one latte a day causing this? I know I sound completely irrational but can't help to think what I'm doing wrong on my behalf.

Has anyone been diagnosed with this and had a happy & healthy twin delivery later??

    I'm just so confused & scared....thanks ladies!

    How far along are you?

He left all of this on a message machine????

My girls have had several u/s where one's growth is off a week or so, then she catches back up. I don't know about asymetrical growth. I would HOPE that if it is serious, he would not leave it on your machine.

    Try not to worry.

I'm almost 29 weeks. I'm going to call the dr office tomorrow to get more info....because leaving this message on my voicemail really left me with LOTS of anxiety. I sure hope my little girl catches up.

I have never posted before, but I couldn't resist when I read your post. With my DS the doctors were worried over the very same thing. They said that his head was measuring much larger than his abdomen. They did another ultrasound four weeks later and it appeared to have fixed itself. Sure enough he was born with the most perfectly round and PERFECTLY PROPORTIONED head. So don't let it worry you too much. Technology is an amazing thing, but it is also not 100% accurate and it can certainly scare you unnecessarily at times.

I think it's very bizarre they would leave all of this on a voicemail... Try not to get too anxious over it yet. I've heard of cases where the belly size changed just depending on how much amniotic fluid they've swallowed in the last hour or so.... perhaps you will go in for another scan and it will look perfectly fine. Also head size can change pretty dramatically depending on what 2d slice they are looking at...if she angles her head one way or the other it can change it by a lot. and often times at this stage we're talking mm up to a cm can make a huge difference on growth dating... My last scan with this baby, her femur looked like it was 10 days behind the rest of her body...the tech redid that measurement and it came in within a few days!! And the actual measurement itself only changed by a few mm!

    Welcome to TS!

:hug99: It's good that the will be monitoring you more closely now. Don't put too much stock in those u/s weights and measurements, as they are not even close to being 100% accurate. Let us know what the doc says.

No advice, just wanted to let you know I hope you can get some answers from your doc today and that helps put your mind at ease.

I too, am amazed what doctors will leave on a voice mail. My infertility diagnosis was left on my voicemail.

I would just go along with the tests..it might just be for precautionary measures. If it was really important, I'm thinking they would have tried to reach you several time and have you come in right away. Try not to stress, and I doubt it was your latte! Hang in there..and let us know how it goes.

First off, hugs. It is always hard to hear info about our children that is out of the realm of normal. It is hard while pregnant; it is hard when they are two. I am guessing, it will be hard when they are all grown up too.

U/Ss have a fairly decent margin of error. So most likely, you will go in for more ultrasounds and some NSTs to make sure that everything is progressing at a normal rate. It is very common, from what I have seen here, for women to go back and learn that everything is fine and that measurements are back to normal. The good news is that you will get more monitoring, which most likely will set your mind at ease.

Keep us updated after you talk to your doctor. And my guess is that he is not too concerned, otherwise he would not have left the message on your machine. Geesh...some doctors!?!!!

OK first off don't panic. Second, don't wait anther second to call your OB. Demand to talk to him/her. I cannot imagine why they would leave this on your machine! All it is doing is causing you worry.

I am sorry that I don't know anything about this specific issue, but I can tell you that my OB did tell me that it is not unusual for one to be smaller than the other. As long as they are not more than 2 weeks apart in size they would not be concerned. I am sure they are wanting to monitor you more closely just to make sure that the babies are consstently growing and developing the way they should.

Take a deep breath and call your doctor immediately. Write down your list of questions and don't let him/her go until you are satisfied that every question and concern you have is answered!

Finally, I am sure that your Latte or eating habits are not the cause. As long as you are making healthy food choices and eating the right number of calories per day you are doing your part.

please also keep in mind that baby girls are genetically USUALLY smally than baby boys...my DD was measuring a full week and a half behind her brother (who was measuring on time) - she was a pound lighter but only a half inch shorter at birth and continues to be nearly the same height but about 2.5-3 lbs behind her brother at 15 mos...
