So i was originally scheduled for a csection on Oct 6th d/t the fact that Baby B is sideways and i live in a rural area where the hospital staff isn't comfortable attempting a breech extraction w/ twins. Well i went to my appt yesterday and they did another ultrasound to get some measurements on the boys, and the measurements from this appt were actually smaller than the measurements they took 2 wks ago. I know there is some inaccuracy w/ ultrasound measurements and i kind of question the results because both US were done by a different tech, i'm wondering if there can be a big variation in the estimates based on how the tech does the measurements....

anyway, so they checked the blood flow thru both babies umbilical cords and said it was within normal limits, tho baby B is a little on the high side of the normal range. So i have to go back on monday and have the same thing done all over again, and if the blood flow thru the cords seems to have gotten any worse they want to do the csection on Tuesday!

I'm 37 wks at this point so my mind tells me that everything should be fine w/ them, but on the other hand, i kind of feel like...babies come when they are ready to right? I'm reluctant to take them out too soon, it's not like u can put them back in if they aren't done! Both babies heart rates look great on the monitor and they are moving around like normal, i feel like the doctors are just pushing the date up to cover their own *****. So know i don't know what i should do....

There can definitely be differences between how techs take measurements and u/s measurements are not always correct. What were your babies' measurements? Our due dates sound like they are within days of each other (my c-section is scheduled for 10/6 also at 38 weeks) and I had my growth measurements done on Thursday. They were 6lbs 4ozs and 5lbs 10ozs, but my tech told me they were probably more like 5.5lbs and 5lbs. I watched her do the measurements and the slightest increase or decrease in how she measured seemed to make the weeks/days jump up or down. Sometimes I felt like she was almost making the babies' measurements be close to what they should be, which is probably why she gave me the disclaimer of them being smaller.

Anyway, with that said, 37 weeks is considered full term. I had my son at 37 weeks due to low fluid and threatening pre-e and he was absolutely healthy and not considered pre-term. So, I think at this point, you'd be safe to deliver. Also, great job for keeping them in so long! Many, many twins are born before 37 weeks!

Mine were 37 weekers, and they were just fine. 6,9 and 6,13, no problems at all. I think they were both 18.5 inches long, but one might've been only 18.

eta: They had to come at 37 wks because I ran out of space for them.

the measurements 2 wks ago showed the babies at 5 lbs 1 oz and 5 lbs 3 oz, then when i went last friday she said 4 11 and 5 1. but she was having a hard time getting good measurements on Baby A's head cuz he's so low down in my pelvis. And i felt the same way, the slightest change in where she was measuring seemed to make a big difference in the gestational age it showed. They are already a little on the small side for how far along I am, everyone i see says i don't look like i'm carrying twins at all (tho it sure FEELS that way, lol).

I was wondering--I know they can do an amniocentesis to determine the babies lung maturity, idk what sort of risks are involved with that or whether i should request one before i let them schedule the csection. I did get the betamethasone injections at 28 wks d/t concern about PTL when i was put on bedrest, so maybe they are a little ahead of the game in that respect? I just don't know, i am the sort of person who feels like nature usually knows what's best, surely if the babies were in distress i'd go into labor on my own? Sometimes i think modern medicine fiddles w/ stuff too much....

IF you are at 37 weeks the babies should be good to go! My guys were born at 33 weeks and 1 day. They are 9 months old now and doing just beautifully. They had to be in the NICU for 2 weeks to grow...other than that they are perfect!

My OB was going to deliver me at 37 weeks if I went that long....so I guess what I am trying to say is go ahead and have those beautiful babies !!!

Let us know how you do!

At 37 weeks they should do great! Sometimes babies hit a point where they grow better out than in and that is NOT YOUR FAULT at all. Good luck and congrats on 37 weeks! I only went 35.

What determines whether they have space to grow further or not? Does someone who's petite have lesser space for them to grow and thus they may arrive earlier than expected? I'm worried how far I can let them cook inside of me cos I'm super petite.
