Song Confusion

    Ok, so you might have noticed that ABC's and Twinkle Twinkle have the same tune. Well, MOrgan was singing ABC's the other day and something distracted her at the end...here's how her song went.


    "A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V (pause...staring at something out the window)...like a diamond in the sky, twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are!"

    It was priceless!

    Mine do that too! It's often intentional, though. They'll sing, "A B C D little star" and grin like it's a joke. For a while, they'd substitute at the end, "Now I know my ABC book" (we have the Dr. Seuss ABC book).

    That is so cute! My second daughter used to do that... we still talk about it 10 years later!

    Mine still tack "doo doo do, doo doo do, doo doo do do!" on at the end, because the Laugh and Learn house does that when it sings the ABC's.

    We got that too! And "Baa Baa Black Sheep" is also to that tune! I can't believe I never noticed that until I had toddlers.

    Yes, we get mixed songs in our house often as well. Too cute!

    Mine have definitely sang their ABC twinkle twinkle little star songs. My favorite is that the boys sing their ABC's but don't know the words "now i sang my ABC's next time won't you sing with me" so they sing it "now i sang my abcdefghijklmnop's" and that the end.

    My guys did that last year. I'm so lame I was a teenager before I ever noticed that the two songs were the same. Baa Baa Blacksheep also borrows that tune (which was written as an instrumental by Mozart).

    I didn' know they were the same tune until I had the twinsa nd I was feeding them one night at like 3 am in the nursery with their music machine on. DH came in and I'm like can you turn the Twinkle Twinkle song on again? He's like, you mean the ABC's? That's when it dawned on me!

    I didn't even think about Baa Baa Black Sheep until just now!

    Mozart wrote a wonderful set of variations on the tune! My DH (whose passion outside work is piano) plays those for the babies all the time, and they love it.

    Here is way more information than you ever wanted to know about the song. I love the words to the French version:
