well i called the doc and they moved my appt. from dec 11th to the 3rd. i told them it was my 1st pregnancy, im spotting brown, i just found out its twins, and im paranoid and nervous. haha so they moved me up. im 9 weeks today..i imagine if i can get through to 12 weeks maybe i wont be so afraid of losing them? sooo my questions.. (thank you all for being so patient with me!!)

-once you found out it was twins did you doctor start paying more attention, more appointments, etc?
i had the u/s done and the tech said they wouldnt move my appt. up or anything...acting like i would be getting the same number of appointments as though i was carrying just one.

-is the peri a requirement when you have multiples? and what do they do exactly?

-when did you start showing?

-did any of you worry about losing them the way i am?
i feel like a nut case!! i think the ONLY thing that would make me feel any better is having my own personal sonogram machine. haha im losing my mindddd!

i had the u/s done and the tech said they wouldnt move my appt. up or anything...acting like i would be getting the same number of appointments as though i was carrying just one.

We had several early u/s as we did ivf, but once we got released to the regular ob she treated us like a "normal" patient until 20 weeks, then we got more frequent appointments and u/s. I had an u/s every week from 24 on as I was battling bp issues and she wanted to make sure the babies were growing well. I think it was around that time that I started having appts every week, but again it was partially due to the bp issues.

-is the peri a requirement when you have multiples? and what do they do exactly?

I didn't see a peri at all, but my ob was pretty experienced with twins. I think had there been issues she would have referred me.

-when did you start showing?

I was in maternity pants by 14 weeks, but it was 16 before I looked pg. I was able to hide it at work until 18 by wearing loose clothing (or so I thought, everyone knew and just was afraid to ask).

-did any of you worry about losing them the way i am?

I had a previous miscarriage so I was terrified of losing one or both of them, that fear started to ease up a bit when I could start feeling them move, but every u/s I had I held my breath until I saw both heartbeats, right up until the end.

You are not crazy, and I'm glad that they moved your appt up to give you reassurance, it's a sign that you are in a good, caring practice.

Hi there!

Yes, once I 'graduated' from my fertility specialist at around 10 weeks I started seeing my OBGYN about every 2 weeks give or take for the entire pregnancy. They told me that they do things a little bit differently with multiples at their office & see us much more than if it were a singleton pregnancy.

I have not seen a peri. my entire pregnancy. My dr. did consult w/ a peri in regards to the amnio that I will have done at 36 weeks, but other than that she works confidently with twins :)

I felt like I started to show REALLY early! I think I was in maternity clothes by week 10!!! I am only 5 feet tall so my tummy started sticking out really really soon cause it had nowhere to else to go :)

I did worry all the time for the first 3 months & the idea of having twins freaked me out. I think it is very normal.
Having this site to browse around on really helped - even though I wasn't posting at the time!

Stay positive & rest as much as you can!!!

I saw my Dr and had an ultrasound every week up until 13 weeks and then started going every other week

I never saw a peri until I went into PTL and was admitted into the hospital. They are high-risk OB's, and they have a little more expertise

I started showing around 15 weeks, but I really "popped" around 20

yes, more appointments and more u/s, and then after me being persistent, fortnightly u/s to monitor for tts

-is the peri a requirement when you have multiples? and what do they do exactly?

don't know what a peri does, as i am in australia, and i don't think they are called that here. I am just seeing an ob.

-when did you start showing?
i was showing at like 5-6 weeks, which i know sounds ridiculous, but i am very petite. My normal clothes were not fitting, and i was very bloated feeling, i put it down to getting bigger quicker being my third preg, then i found out at 9 wks they were id twins.

-did any of you worry about losing them the way i am?
Yes, early on i was very worried about the VT, then about just miscarrying them, carrying them in general, getting them to 24 wks(net wed!!) and ptl. I never worried this much with my other two preg but i thik it just comes with having twins and the etra complications. With singletons, its kinda easy...once you get to 5 months, miscarriage is rare, ptl is rare, etc...no issues like tts or iugr...

know that you are not alone...glad you are being monitored well.

-once you found out it was twins did you doctor start paying more attention, more appointments, etc?
I have an appointment every 4 weeks - just like a mother carrying one. I get u/s every 4 weeks also.... that's the big difference.

-is the peri a requirement when you have multiples? and what do they do exactly?
No - I'm not seeing one.

-when did you start showing?
I got a little tiny baby bump around 15-16 weeks. Now at 25 weeks everyone can tell I'm pregnant. The first stranger asked me questions about being pregnant around 22 weeks. All I ever hear is how my belly is not big enough for twins.... it drives me nuts!

-did any of you worry about losing them the way i am?
Absolutely! I have a feeling I'm going to worry this entire pregnancy. It's just how I am. You are completely normal - I think this is just what pregnant women do.... Worry!

After my first appointment and u/s ( Iwas 8 weeks at the first appointment), I did not go back until a month later which is pretty standard. You will definitely have more appointments that if you were carrying a singleton, but in the beginning unless there are problems, you will only go once a month.

-is the peri a requirement when you have multiples? and what do they do exactly?

I did not see a peri and my doctor never even mentioned it. I have ID twin boys, and had a very uneventful pregnancy.

-when did you start showing?

I started showing about 14 or 15 weeks were people questioned whether or not I was pregnant. I am a pretty petite person (or should I say was). I started buying maternity pants pretty early on, but really only because I was so excited to be pregnant and just really wanted to wear maternity (I know it sounds silly doesn't it, I would kill right now to trade in the maternity pants for my old jeans).

-did any of you worry about losing them the way i am?

I worried like crazy in between the first sono at 8 weeks and the second sono at 12 weeks. Someone told me a story about how their daughter was pregnant with twins at a first appointment and then when she went back for her second appointment she had lost one (nice, huh?). Needless to say I did endless research on Vanishing Twin Syndrome and scared myself to death. It occupied my thoughts so much that I couldn't sleep at night.

You are not a nut case, I think most of us felt the same way. Try to enjoy it. It is such a special blessing to be pregnant with twins. Congratulations!

Welcome to TS and congrats :)

I start getting more appointments in Dec., every two weeks. I don't have a peri. One has never been mentioned by my doc. I was in materinty pants at 11 weeks. I worry about losing them every single day.

Hi! :) I know spotting is scary, but it is brown, so that's good! I had tons of spotting in my first tri - much more common w/ multiples.

I got pregnant with injects/IUI with an RE so she was seeing me weekly from week 6-11. I did go see my OB during that time and also went to the Peri. I had a few appts w/ both the peri and the OB from weeks 10-15.

Now, I'm only seeing my OB because he is super experienced with twins. I was having appts every 3-4 weeks, but since week 19 I go in every 2 weeks so he can check my cervix and everything. I also get an u/s every time because dopplers are not reliable with twins. So, yes, I'm being watched a lot more closely!

I could tell I was getting bigger around 8 weeks, but by 13 weeks I was totally showing.

Yes, I was super worried. It took us 22 months to conceive and we had to use ARTs, so I think I was probably more paranoid than most.

-once you found out it was twins did you doctor start paying more attention, more appointments, etc?
We found out at 19 weeks and had complications so we started being seen every week after that. If the babies had been fine, we still would have been seen more often than with a singleton. In the first trimester, I'm not sure they increase the number of visits significantly for multiples.

-is the peri a requirement when you have multiples? and what do they do exactly?
I would say a peri is a requirement if there is any chance they are identical but not needed if they are definitely fraternal and you are having no complications. Identicals have to be watched closely for TTTS (only about 10% chance of getting it but it needs to be treated) while many doctors consider a fraternal pregnancy not much more high risk than a singleton.

-when did you start showing?
I was showing by the end of the 1st trimester. I went up two sizes in pants by 10 weeks.

-did any of you worry about losing them the way i am?

I was scared of losing them every single day until they were born. The fear didn't rule my life but it was always there when I was checking on them. I think it's perfectly normal to worry about something that is so important but that you really can't control.

-once you found out it was twins did you doctor start paying more attention, more appointments, etc?
Yes. I have a few health issues to start with so once i left my fertility specialiast I went to the peri. MY OB will no longer see me due to complications I have had!!!! They said to come back when I am postpartum

-is the peri a requirement when you have multiples? and what do they do exactly?
For me Yes. I see me Peri every 2-3 weeks since 9 weeks and from this point forward I will every 2 weeks. The peri does ultrasounds every time I am there, check heart rates, bloodwork, check cervix length, and give me lots of restrictions!!! (bed rest and pelvic rest)

-when did you start showing?
I got a little tiny baby bump around 10-11 weeks, but I feel huge now and have gained 14lbs thus far!!!

-did any of you worry about losing them the way i am?
Absolutely! I spotted a lot in my first trimester and had bleeding early in my second trimester. I'm more anxious about this pregnancy then any of my others!!!

1. I was seen every 4 weeks until about 32 weeks, then it went to every 2 weeks then every week.. AND I got ultrasounds at every single visit..

2. Never saw a Peri at all..

4. Showing by 20 weeks ish I guess..

5. I found out at 12 weeks, which already puts them way low for loseing them at that point... BUT I worried till after 5 months plus cause my cousin lost one twin at 22 weeks.. I was a wreck.. then after that you stress about having them to early..

I am only 15 weeks...well, almost if you count days... but I was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs! (my grandma's old saying! but very true) I found out I was pg with twins at 9 weeks. I thought I was 13, but... wow a surprise there! So I had to start back at 9 weeks waiting each week holding my breath hoping for the best. My next u/s was last week at 14 weeks and let me tell you, there was no relief until I saw both of my babies moving around, found out their heartbeats were good and strong, and that they were both growing right on schedule.

I had a m/c in March and so there was no comforting me, until I saw them again. I do know that if you are going to m/c, there is nothing you can do to stop it. I also know that it is nothing anyone did, it is just one of those things. Not a lot of comfort I know. All you can do is follow the doctors instructions, pray and hope for the best. Do what you feel is best for you. If going on bedrest until the spotting stops completely makes you feel better than do it. I will tell you this, I had a small amount of bleeding when I went to the bathroom around 7-9 weeks. It did clear up, and everything is going great for me now. I hope you all the best and I hope that you will have at least some comfort in what I am saying.

I go in to the dr. 1x a month right now, and I am scheduled for 1 u/s a month. as for what you said about a personal sono machine... I am with you there! This is all I can tell you from my aspect as of now, but I really do hope things work out for you. Just keep holding on!

No, I was treated as a normal pregnancy. My ultrasound appointments were booked for a longer time, but the rest of the appointments were the same. At 22 weeks my appt. schedule got weirded up, so they've been seeing me every two weeks since then.
