So I was (AM) in no rush to start solid and I know it’s not recommended until 6m, except when dh talk to our Dr at our 4m and talked about them seeming so hungry but if we give them more then 8oz they spit up… and he said… some baby’s wants cereal and solids earlier in my 20 years experience… some cant and wont until 6 m and have food allergies if done too soon, but some are ready like a clock at 4m and it sound like your are… so DH and now my nanny (who had no idea about the Dr conversation) wants to ad cereal mid day… I’m giving in… and will probably give cereal tomorrow or Sunday… but I do find it funny I was sooo eager w/ my first and now I’m ALMOST dreading starting…

I was eager at 4 mos too - especially with our 4 mo sleep regression, I was hoping it would help. Well they hardly ingested enough to make a difference there. I tried to stick with it every day for a week or so and it was such a pain. I'd get maybe three spoons in and then they'd start to whine and turn away. I finally gave up and just recently at 5 mos started up again. They're getting it a little better, but it's still much harder (and way more of a pain!) than I thought it would be. I skipped today because we were out. It made me think how once we finally get this down, even if it is a pain, they'll have to eat. I can't just skip their meals because it's a hassle and we had other things going on!

We waited until 5 months but only DS liked it and DD didn't like it until 7 months. There is so much contraversy about when to start, just go with your gut and start when you feel comfortable. It is all for practice at that point, it doesn't make them sleep longer at night or anything.

We started at 4mths. DS was definitely ready. DD wasn't very interested in it until a few weeks later.
Do what you feel comfy with.

We didn't start until just under 6mnths, ds would have probably been ready earlier, but I dont' think dd would have been. Now they are champion eaters, they LOVE food, everything we have given them they will eat - meat, veggies, fruit, cereal!
You will have a good idea if they are ready after your first few feeding experiences!

We didn't start until nearly 5 1/2 months because I really just didn't want another thing to schedule in the day. Doesn't that sound awful! But really the girls were fine without it and its all for practice so I didn't see the rush. I was looking forward to getting those first cute pix and video of them eating, but not enough to start at 4 months on the dot. GL convincing your DH (your nanny really shouldn't have a say in this).

I started at 4.5 months or so and only because they had bad reflux and were already getting cereal in the bottle. However once we got started on the first meal, I took me forever to get to 3 meals a day only because it was so much work. So dont feel bad.

We started at 5 months. Jackson was ready, Lucas not so much. We have worked up to 2 meals a day and it is going well. You should do it when you feel you they are ready. GL!

Tell your hubby and the nanny that's fine but THEY get to bathe the kids and clean the high chairs after the solids meals until six months.

i like that one... but dh would and nanny WILL so... i will give it a try... i have a feeling i will show dh (nanny will just have to take my word as pp said she really doesn’t have a say) and they wont take to it like he thinks and i will try again in about a month...

We started at 6 months with the twins. I dreaded meal times because of the mess & the time.

I liked that! I think DH should have to feed them as well. :)

We decided to give solids a try at 4mo. And 4.5, and 5, and 5 something, and finally 6. They weren't starving before 6 months, nor were they particularly interested in solid foods. We would try it for a couple of days and when they could absolutely care less we would quit. What a change 6 months was (at least for one of them). They are still getting enough formula that we don't have to do solids, but I drew a line in the sand and said 6 months it would be (unless they hated it). One of them now lunges mouth wide open at the coming spoon. I also frequently have to wrestle the spoon away from him to get the next bite. He thinks he is "helping." Just like with the bottles. Only it matters much more how good his aim is... The other one likes solid foods when he is in the mood - absolutely must be before his internal clock goes off and he decides he is starving and that "crap" we keep shoveling is is not dinner. :) Maybe an appetizer, tastes nice on occassion, but definately not filling.

I say let the babies decide if they are ready or not. Give it a try for a few days and gauge from there. Good luck!

LOL, well you know from past experience what a pain adding solids can be. :D

Since nanny and DH are the ones that want to get started, let them take care of it. ;)

My pedi recommended cereal at 4 months, baby food at 6. But every pedi is different, as I think has been perfectly established on here.... <_< lol
