my girls were born at 35 weeks. do i have to wait until they are 4 months adjusted to start solids? sophia stares at me when i am eating in a way that reminds me of our dog when he is begging.

We haven't started yet, but our ped has suggested we start at 4 months. When we go for their 4mth check-up we are discussing it then.

We started at a little over 4 months, real age. They were born at 37 weeks.

We started some at 6 months (which they were born at 30 weeks) so adjusted age would've been around 4 months.
Our first solids were some rice cereal & applesauce.

I started mine at about 5 months. I could've earlier but decided to wait since I was in no hurry. I really struggle now to fit in the time for solids. Between bottles, naps and dealing with a toddler all day all I can say is WHEW !!! Plus they really could care less if they have any food...it seems anyway. My dd still doesn't open wide with the spoon. So I don't really press. They get the nutrition from their bottle anyway.

I waited until 6 mo adjusted age, per recommendation of the AAP, WHO, etc. Here's just one of many reasons:

    QUOTE
If solids are started before a baby's system is ready to handle them, they are poorly digested and may cause unpleasant reactions (digestive upset, gas, constipation, etc.). Protein digestion is incomplete in infancy. Gastric acid and pepsin are secreted at birth and increase toward adult values over the following 3 to 4 months. The pancreatic enzyme amylase does not reach adequate levels for digestion of starches until around 6 months, and carbohydrate enzymes such as maltase, isomaltase, and sucrase do not reach adult levels until around 7 months. Young infants also have low levels of lipase and bile salts, so fat digestion does not reach adult levels until 6-9 months.

I started at 4 months (3 months corrected) my one twin has reflux so instead of using reflux formula because it is thicker I just give her a bit of cereal before her bottle. It has worked out great. I also give her pears mixed in with her cereal since Pears work like prunes only better to prevent constipation. She eats it very well. My other twin doesn't need it so I don't bother and just give her breastmilk or formula.

Our ped gave the ok at 4 months -- which was 2 months adjusted. The reasons were because (1) Ace had been taking medicine from a spoon for a while and really enjoyed it and (2) Ace has reflux and the ped felt the solids would help him keep more of his food down. We started Nate at the same time, since Ace was doing it.

A few days shy of six months here. Waited 'till the babies both were sitting up really well and able to indicate really clearly - by turning their head, etc. - when they weren't interested any more. Adding solids was initially such a hassle - wanted to make sure they were ready to ENJOY the food and get some nutrition out of it.
