We finally got our missing peice to our high chairs and have been having rice cereal once a day following a bottle. What are the next steps in the solids process? We go to the pedi for our 6 month visit on Wednesday, but I was wondering what you guys think?

We done the rice cereal and then went to the single grain oatmeal. We never tried barley. the first food they had was applesauce & pears. I know some say to start w/ the veggies, but I did it backwards and they haven't had any problems trying everything.

I also started with rice cereal then went to oatmeal. Once they had that figured out I started with fruits and veggies. I rotated between veggies and fruits. Make sure you give then the same thing for at least 3-4 days to make sure there isn't an allergy. My 6 months my girls were having two solid feeding, morning and evening. Good luck and have fun with it. [IMG]

I started w/ rice cereal - then tried apples for 3-4 days in the morning - then moved apples & cereal to the evening and started w/ sweet potato in the morning for 3-4 days...I alternated between fruits and veggies and moved the foods we had tried to the evening feed, starting the new food in the morning. After we had done 3 different fruits and 3 different veggies, I tried oatmeal - then did 3 different fruits and 3 different veggies and then did barley - always trying the new food in the morning and having some sort of combo of old foods at night - usually had veggies at night if trying fruits in the morning and fruits at night if trying veggies in the morning....

We began Rice at 2 1/2 months actually... our pedi told us it would help with the reflux. And it did.

At 4 months I started them on bananas. When they mastered those, I tried apples. Every 4 days I tried something new. Thankfully mine were never allergic to anything. Mine were not big on rice or oatmeal once I began the other solids, to get them to eat the rice or oatmeal I would have to mix in juice or pudding or something with a better taste to get them to eat it.

Around 5 months we did oatmeal 30 min after their morn bottle and then around 5:00 at night. AFter a week we added a veg in the morn and they ate it with the oatmeal. I put a little of each on the spoon. After 4 days, i moved that veg to dinner and intro a new veg or fruit. At 6 months we still do it 2 times a day. THey have oatmeal and a fruit or veg at each meal.

When we started i was so concerned about documenting who ate how much. after about a week, i realized it was not important and they just stopped when they were full. This is the order i introduced:
    sweet pot
    squash
    pears
    apples
    peas
    peaches
    carrots

So the first week, they only had a veg in the morn and oatmeal at night. Four days later i was able to have 2 jar foods since the one got moved to dinner and a new one could be into in the morning
