We are quickly approaching 1 year and I feel like I am doing everything wrong with feeding at the end of the year.

The girls still love pureed solids and have a hard time with textures. They will eat macaroni/cheese and toast, but don't like "bits" of soft food like sweet potato, green beans, etc, even though they eat it fine pureed. Lately I have just been pureeing as I know they are at least eating - and they have upped the ante on the eating, finishing about 6-7 oz each per meal now.

Am I doing a bad thing not doing more table food or will they take to it when ready?
(one has two teeth coming up and the other has none)
Starting to get a little anxious about having 1 year olds and still feeding them baby food. What did your transition look like time-wise vs. kinds of food?

Hey Betsy, I wouldn't sweat it too much if they are eating some chunky foods. I would keep offering both, and eventually they will figure out that it is more fun to do it(and make a huge mess  ) themselves. Have you tried rolling the 'slimier' veggies and fruits in wheat germ or something similar to cut down on the ick factor?

I think your doing a great job. It will come with time and when they are ready and they will be.

I'm not trying to freak you out by posting this, but my DS refused ALL "lumpy" foods until 1.5yrs. Seriously. I'm talking even Cheerios, puffs, you name it!!! It was horribly frustrating. People reassured me that he would be off baby food before he graduated, lol, but still... Well, at right about 18mos he decided he wanted to eat real food. And he ate every food imaginable for about a week (we were treating him like Mikey on the cereal commercial  ). He's still a picky eater, but at least he's 4 and doesn't eat baby food, just like people told me he wouldn't. heehee.

This is just a theory, but the light switch went on when we went on vacation w/ his 2 cousins who are 1 and 2 yrs older than him, so he saw them eating all kinds of stuff for a whole week of meals. I wonder if it was a case of peer pressure. I didn't notice if your girls have older sibs or not, but maybe having some older kids share in mealtime with you guys occasionally might help? Couldn't hurt. :pardon:

    Good luck!!

It took mine until 15 months old to really be accepting of all textures. What your babies are doing sounds perfectly normal. I'd keep doing what you are doing with offering textures but also giving them pureed food.

I agree with pp's I would just keep offering them & they will eventually start eating them more. It just takes some babies longer to adjust than others. Becky's idea of rolling them in wheat germ is a good one!

I also agree that they'll get it if you keep offering it!

I crush the gerber puffs up in a ziploc bag and toss banana, the gerber soft diced apples, canned fruit...etc in it, makes it easier for them to pick up that way.
