When did you start meats? My Ped said they could start meats or I could wait until 9 months. I was curious what others did? Also did you do yogurt? They said I could do that too.

we just went in for our 6 month wellness checkup (at 6 1/2 months) which is 5 months adjusted. he told us we could start incorporating meat in the next month. he said a lot of our hesitation to introduce meat before 9 months is cultural and there's no medical reason why it can't be introduced by 7 months.

We did the pureed meats about 7 or 8 months. I just mixed them in with the veggies. They seemed to like them alot.

in Canada they actually recommend meat as a first food now because it's such a good source of iron which babies are usually starting to run low on by 6 months. i started with chicken - my girls HATED it pureed on its own, but i found if i pureed it with apples and/or sweet potatoes they really loved it. Annabel Karmel had some really great puree recipes for meats & fish.

as pp mentioned many pedis in Canada and the UK are now reccomending meats as one of babies first foods due to the iron.
We just started introducing meat last week. I definately dont recomend just the meat alone (you can buy jars of like chicken and chicken broth) as many babies just throw it back up...I dont blame them it looks and smells like dog food. So we actually gave chicken and sweet potatoes (as they've already had sweet potatoes and I know they arent allergic and can handle them) and also chicken and vegetables (all the vegetables we had already introduced).

My boys just got their first taste of meat... EASTER HAM! One of them loved it and the other definitely did not. I just mashed it with my fingers until it was a very small mushy piece. definitely gave me confidence to try more meats. Although I do think it's a great idea to mix it in with their veges. I'll try that too.

My boys did not like the pureed meats at all. In fact I stopped giving them to them because even mixed with something else it usually came right back out. They do love meat cut up now as finger foods though.
As for yogurt they have been getting that for about 3 1/2 months and they LOVE it. It is by far their favorite thing to eat. I get the kind with fruit in it and always try to get different flavors for them to try.

We started solids at 6 months so when 9 months came, we added another meal which included meat. Their iron level was fine at the 9 month level without it.

At the 6-month appointment our pedi said we could start meats. I've been holding off until my sicky boy is well again. I don't like introducing new foods to them when they have the runs. ;)

We mixed pureed chicken or ground beef with veggies around 7 months. They really loved it!! We also started plain whole milk yogurt about then. It's great with pureed banana and avocado!!

I started yogurt around 8 months. I couldn't stand looking at the pureed meat, so I waited until they could eat little pieces of rotisserie chicken, ground turkey, etc, before I introduced meats. Probably around 9 months.

I started pureed chicken about 6.5 months, and fish at 7 months. I recently made some food with ground beef for them. They have liked everything a lot. I started plain yogurt at 8 months - they like it plain and with fruit added.
