So, we started solids with BK Friday a week ago and she's doing great. So far, green peas are her favorite. I started off just giving her rice cereal and baby food (bananas, peas, squash) at lunch. On Monday when I introduced her new food (after 3 days on the first one) I gave her bananas at lunch and green peas at dinner. I have been giving her two meals of solids ever since. Is this OK or am I doing too much too fast?

Personally we only did one meal at 4 months to 6 months. They were inconsistent eaters at first and didnt really get the hang of it until about 5 1/2 months. I also didnt give them both solids on the same day until they got much more consistent with it. It is up to you if you want to continue to do solids twice a day, but I would really make sure it's not interfering with her/their formula intake as that is the most important at 4 months.

We didn't start solids until 6 months. I did 1 meal for a month, then 2 meals for a month, and finally moved to three meals at 8 months. What does your pedi recommend? Mine was happy that went slowly since BM/formula is really the most important thing.

We started solids at 4 months and just gave them 1TBSP/day max until they were 6 months old. Our pediatrician told us at six months that they need 24oz of formula/BM every day and that everything on top of that was 'gravy'. I would wait until six months to add a second meal and make sure she is taking in the 24oz/day before adding that second meal.

The pedi put her on solids as she has graduated to the big girl (ie. full-term baby) growth chart and is at 25% for height and 75% for weight. So, she's kind of on a diet. Basically she wanted to shift her intake from formula (which is higher calories) to solids. I'm thinking maybe I'll go back to just once a day until her 6 month appt. Maybe I just got a little too excited about it ;)

Ditto this. We started at 6 months and each month we added a meal.
    7 months = 2 meals
    8 months = 3 meals
    9 months = 3 meals & 1 snack
    10 months = 3 meals & 2 snacks

and we've stayed on that ever since.

How many ounces for bm/formula are they taking a day? Thats really the most important part as solids are just practice and not for nutritional value until closer to a year of age.

A diet at 4 months?

Their solids intake doesnt start to overtake the formula intake until closer to the end of the first year.

The book Super Baby Food by Ruth Yarron is a great book about starting solids with nutrition hints and recipes.

We started solids at 4 months and at that time, it was just for practice. The main nutrition still came from formula.

What we did was started with rice cereal, maybe a tbsp mixed with some formula and tried that out for a week. After the first week with cereal, we then tried a vegetable and let them cycle through that veggie for a week and went through all the stage 1 veggies before we attempted fruit. I would double check with your pedi at 6 months about solid/formula intake.

Same here! I would talk to your pedi.
