Solids Questions

I am wondering if I should start incorporating a third solids meal. A and L will be 8 months next week. I currently give them 4 bottles/day (6-8oz.) and 2 solid meals. One thing I am going to change is giving them solids before the morning nap. Right now, I have been doing a bottle upon waking and then cereal/fruit after am nap. This nap has been very short and I think it's b/c they are hungry. The first bottle is 8oz. and they drink it all. Should I cut it down to 6oz and then feed solids right after? Just looking for opinions. I have started giving them some cheerios and puffs and they really like those.

 

I wouldn't necessarily cut down the first bottle if they are drinking the whole 8oz. I give a bottle at waking and then about 45 min later do a solid meal.

 

I would also stick with the 8 oz bottles. At 9 mos, our pedi encouraged us to continue to give them as much from milk/formula as they wanted since it's got so much good nutritional value!

 

Ditto. I would stick with the 8 oz & wait 30 to 45 minutes before feeding the solids. If you find they aren't hungry or aren't eating very much, you can reevaluate. I think I added the third meal between 9 & 10 months.

 

I would keep the bottle. Maybe give them solids right afterward to top them up. We do that for the first morning feed. Nathaniel nurses then get cereal and some fruit right afterward. William gets a bottle and some cereal and fruit right after. That way they are getting their milk, and then topped up with some solids

 

Thanks! I did the new routine this morning. Now, to get them to take a morning nap is my next hurdle!
