I have been feeding the twins solids for a while now but nothing really where I have a set schedule. I know, they are going to be 9 months old tomorrow and I should already be on top of this. I feel like such a bad mother! With my other 3 kids I had this down to a science by now. With the twins it just seems so much harder. I don't know if its because there are 2 of them or because they are number 4 and 5! It has been this way with everything with them. I was ahead of schedule with my others and with the twins not so much. Anyone else?

So how often should I be feeding them solids each day? Right now they get 4 bottles a day - 8 oz. each. They don't have a problem with eating table food or baby food. I just need to get on the ball. I get WIC for them and they have cut back on the formula due to the fact they should be eating more solids. So anyone have suggestions on what you do? How much milk and how many solids a day??

I would keep up with the same bottles they are getting now, but add in 2 or 3 meals a day. It may be that once you do that they will cut back on the formula a bit & you may want to do 4 6oz bottles or 3 8oz bottles instead. I always aimed for 3 meals of table food by around 12 months.

Don't feel bad! With my boys(who were my first), I had all the scheduling down to a science as well. With Annabella-she gets the shaft! LOL! I was never consistent with her feedings. She was never scheduled in that she got a bottle at 7, 11, 4, and 7-or whatever. It did tend to drive me crazy! LOL!

But I agree-I would stay with the bottles as they are. At nine months, she was doing 4 6oz bottles and (if lucky) two solids meals. I did try to aim for three meals/day at nine months. And now finally at 12 months, she is down to three 8oz bottles and three meals/day.

WOW!!! You have 5 kids!!! My life seems so mundane:)

We are 8 1/2 months (almost) and my girls do 4 bottles a day containing 6-7oz and 3 meals. Breakfast is fruit/cereal mix. lunch is meat/veg/fruit and dinner is rice cereal and veg or fruit. They are eating around 3-4 oz of food at each sitting. I slowly added the 3rd meal and upped the solids, so that they didn't decrease their formula consuption too much. We seem to have a good schedule going now.

Oh I hear ya, except in my case I may have pushed my twins a little bit more, because i was ready to get all 4 kids on the same schedule! ;)

At 9 months we were doing 3 meals/snacks a day, and 3-4 8oz bottles a day, they were transitioning down to 3 if I remember right. We had a morning bottle, breakfast/lunch meal, a good snack, bottle before nap, supper, and then bottle before bed. The good snack was my substitute for a bottle, they were only drinking a couple oz so we got rid of it. We also did sippy cups of water with a dash of juice for meals and snacks.

At 9 months we were doing 2-3 meals a day and 4 bottles/nurse a day. Our schedule was as follows:
Wake up: nurse, then downstairs for breakfast
Wake from nap #1: 8 oz bottle, then sometimes lunch
Wake from nap #2: 8 oz bottle, play, then dinner when mommy gets home from work
Bedtime: nurse, then in bed for the night

These usually fell about the same time but we never follow the clock for wake up and naptime, just let them wake on their own and lay them down when they start acting tired. We added in the lunch meal sometime in the 9th month when they seemed like they were still hungry after their bottle and eating A LOT of solids at dinner. About 10 1/2-11 months the dropped their afternoon bottle, so now at 12 months we are on 3 meals and 3 bottles/nurse per day.

Yes, I have 5 and yes sometimes I think I am crazy! lol

Thanks for all the replies! I really like all the ideas and going to try a few to see which works best. I am going to try to really fit solids in on a daily basis. I may wait till we get back from the beach though. Everything is just so hectic here most of the time. Especially now that the boys are out of school for the summer!

At 9 mos we were also on 4 bottles, 3 meals, and two snacks a day. However, I know what you are feeling. Until about 1 year I felt like I was not getting the food to them as consistently as I wanted to. They helped me with that though once they started eating more. We truly "practiced" from 9 mo - 1 year. :) I would do cereal every day for iron and mix in fruits or veggies. It was hard to remember they didn't eat that much at a sitting. I admit it was the hardest times of day at that age. Getting them all prepared for them to not want to eat, then be hungry after I got them cleaned up and back down to play...LOL.
