I thought I could read my twins when they are hungry, I guess not. They both gained about a pound in 2 months. I just need to ask if anyone could share how much(in oz) of solids they give their babies during the day versus BM/formula. Our ped said as long as they consume total 20-22 oz solids plus formula, they are fine. Here is how much I was feeding them over past few months; 4bottles per day 5-7 oz each about 6-8oz of food=solids 3x per day 2-4 oz each Am i not feeding them enough? My concern is that if they drink their formula and I give them 4 oz of food, in 3 hours they will not be hungry for 6 oz bottle? I hope I make sense. Just a little bit confused. thanks
Interesting. I was never told an amount of solids to give as they are of little nutritional value at 9 months old...still more practice than for sustenance. I was told that if they had their BM/formula, they would give keys on when they were full on solids, which mine generally did. How much formula and how often for the babies? ETA: as that might indicate why they don't eat more or less...you KWIM. Do you make their food with cereal too. At that age, mine would generally split a 4 oz jar with oatmeal for breakfast, split a jar of veggie with cereal and then split a jar of fruit for lunch, split a jar of veggie/meat with cereal, split a jar of fruit, and usually split a baby yogurt. They also did eat cheerios/mum mum/etc at 9 months old...not well, but they did eat some.

Is it possible you mixed it up? We all know how much info is thrown at you at appointments and I know I tried to write everything I could remember down once I got to the car, but that didn't always work.
Also, just wanted to add that formula and breastmilk has more fat and calories than solids. So if your Ped wants more weight gain, I would slow down on the solids and give more liquids.

Mine have 4 bottles a day - about 24 oz and they eat whatever they want, I don't force it on them. My pedi didn't give me any recommendations for feeding -- she says feed them on demand and they'll let you know when they are done.
I agree with the others that it sounds like the info from the doctor maybe got a littles confused. Formula or breastmilk is all a baby needs until they're a year old, so solids before that are not for nutrition. It's more just practice for the future. I'd give them their bottles and then a little while later let them have some solids. The food shouldn't be in place of their formula/EBM at this age.
