We started solids a week ago yesterday, twice per day, after breastfeeding in the morning and early evening...they get one more bottle feeding before sleep, not that it necessarily applies to my question...Ally is up to about 3 oz of fruit in the am and 2 in the pm, while The Bear takes 2 and 1 1/2 oz (who knew the chunk would be the less enthusiastic eater?)....so far we have tried apples and pears

since then, their poo has gradually grown more consistent as i expected, but now it is getting solid....and constantly throughout the day, they make a little "bloop"-like every hour-about the size of an almond (maybe a food visual wasn't the best choice  )....i know their little systems are just learning to digest food and this is what it could be due to, but is this normal?

my kids have been major farters from the beginning, and they continue to toot their little lives away, and don't seem uncomfortable, but i am concerned this could be the beginning of constipation and am wondering if i should scale back to one solid feeding per day, or just introduce prunes next to "loosen" things up...

i wouldn't be concerned if they weren't constantly putting out a little chunk and then i think well, they're constantly pooping so it cant be constipation....but still, it's solid (like play doh solid)...

any advice or commiseration is appreciated

one of my DS's poo is like this too. He never seems uncomfortable, nor does he go a long time w/out pooping, so I have just assumed it was ok. :unknw:

It could be just from their bodies learning to digest. do they cry when they poop like it hurts them? If you do try prunes - try just 1/2 a tub to split between them - or you'll have the opposite on your hands. I remember my girls pooping rabbit turds too. They were a little constipated I knew because they cried a little when they pooped. the prunes did the trick. This is the beginning of "how many textures and colors of poop can come out of a little body" phase. As long as they don't seem to be in any pain and are eating fine and happy, I wouldn't worry to much. A little water in a bottle will help too. about an ounce or two. Good Luck!

My son DOES have constipation... we are also about 2 weeks into eating solids. He has a lot of pain with his (VERY hard, large) stools.

The most constipating foods are bananas, apples, and rice cereal. When I took rice out, and added prunes twice daily he seemed to do much better.

I know you said you might start bananas... maybe you might want to try something else instead, to avoid tipping the scales in the direction of constipation. :)

    Good luck! Keep us posted!

My Evan was the same way for about 2 months until he body got the hang of digesting solids more efficiently. Now we just get two, big, horrible diapers a day. I miss those old little "secret poops" as we used to call them.

the boys have been doing that too since starting solids - they don't seem to be in pain at all, though, so I haven't been concerned about it.

Before you rush into giving them prunes be forewarned - they will poop all day long if they're getting prunes. give them just a little - maybe split a tub once a day at most. I'd do it in the morning, so they're not pooping all night long.
