I am taking care of twin girls that are 8 months old, but were 3 months premature. So, they are 5 months adjusted age. The mom just recently started them on cereal. They of course just spit it back out and I for the life of me can not remember how long it took my boys to really start eating when I feed them. Every day the mom asks me how I get them to eat or how long it takes them to actually start eating instead of spitting it out and I just can't remember. So, for those of you who have just recently gone through this, how long did it take for them to really take to eating the solid food?

I think it is different with every baby. We started cereal at 4 months and from day one they devoured it and don't spit it back out. Just over 5 months now and boy their mouths open right up with they see the spoon coming...also when we are eating they want the food. Maybe the babies are taking care of are just not ready yet if they are just spitting it all back out. Do they show interest in food when you eat? The boys ped said that was a big sign if they were ready for solids or not.

I tried mine with cereal at 4 and 5 months and it did not go to well, at 6 months they were more interested!

Mine were not interested at five months, but by six months they were much more interested!

We started cereal at 4 months, and the first few attempts, I thought they weren't ready as they spit it out; but as soon as I added some sweet potatoes, they ate it right up. They just didn't like the cereal that much by itself. So maybe things will improve when their mom is ready to let them try another food?

My boys are almost 5 months and love cereal, maybe they are not fussy over the kind of cereal. After trying a few different kinds of cereal, my boys like rice and barley the best!

Mine didn't really start taking anything solid until 6 months and then it wasn't very much.
