I've been looking over sample menu's for 8-10 month olds and most of them have three meals per day plus a finger food snack (like puffs). It seems like they would be in the highchair for a lot of the day!

I feel bad having them in the high chair so much, won't that take away from their floor/exploration time?

We went to 3 meals a day at 9 months. I guess that is one thing that I never felt guilty about-they need to eat. :pardon:

We weren't on 3 meals a day until nearly 10 months. In the beginning it did seem like a lot of time in the high chair, but now its just the routine.

Mine have three meals but no snack. If I gave them a snack they would be down to 18oz of formula a day if that.

Lots of time? I never really thought about it, but we do 3 meals a day. They typically eat 3-4 jars of stage 2 food in 10 minutes or so. So, total of 30 minutes plus a little clean up? They certainly don't mind. Their only complaint is if I don't shovel fast enough, I feed one more spoonfuls than the other, they don't care for my menu, or we are at the end of their favorite jar and I sign all done. :) Puffs or finger foods is a whole different story, but that's more like an activity for us. There is quite a bit of concentration, giggling, squealing, and cheering from the peanut gallery.

The time goes fast especially if they are hungry. I do 3 meals a day but i dont do "snacks" I do however offer finger food (like puffs or cherrios, or Kix which I just learned are high in iron)- and I allow them to feed themselves those things AFTER I have fed them the "meal" . That keeps them distracted while I clean up or sit and have something to eat myself. They dont mind one bit!

Mine don't even eat everyday... we are 8 months and just practicing. (They are 3&4 for me, I don't sweat it!)

i guess eating is just a big part of their "life" at this age :) the girls don't have much interest in finger foods, they will put ANY toy or object in their mouth but when I put something edible on their tray they just stare at it, maybe touch it, but don't try and eat it..... go figure :)

Not at all. Sounds like you're doing the normal food schedule for that age :).
