After reading the news about dangerous chemicals found in bathing products (including what we've been using, thankfully only twice a week), I'm just not use what kind of soap/shampoo to use anymore.

What do you use? We don't use lotions at all, just need something to clean them up twice a week (and soon 3 times I guess).

We use Aveno baby wash b/c of their dry skin and the walmart brand of the baby shampoo. I will have to check out that link, hadn't heard about that.

I will have to check the link as well about the baby soap. We use Johnson and Johnson's for DD and Burt Bee's for DS (he has ezcema and that really helps his skin out).
    Thanks for the link!

Thankfully, the brand and type we use aren't on there. We have used the J&J body wash/shampoo forever and just started using the J&J 2-n-1 shampoo for their hair. We use the standard J&J lotion.

We use the J&J baby wash too... but it has one of the ingredients to watch for, sodium laureth sulfate (found the list here, at the end of the 'where they come from' paragraph). That's why I want to change.

I'm really angry and upset right now... and just really glad we never used lotions and only bathe them twice a week.

When I click on the link for the news article, the page comes up, but nothing there but the name of the paper it is from and an ad. Is there a list somewhere else that lists the brands?

Here are a few good links:

    The Report

    Database of Products

I think you will find most stuff, even the suppossed organic stuff has some troublesome chemicals.

I truly don't know what to think. I would imagine that taken alone these products are probably fine, i think it's more what the lady said in the article, that all these carcingonens exist in lots of places you wouldn't expect and the culmative effect is troubling. We had switched from the target brand of J&J to an organic soap and it didn't agree with the kids, I haven't decided what to do.

We use California Baby stuff. I really like it because I can understand all of the ingredient names. Besides, it's fragrance free and really gentle. You can get CB at Whole Foods or other natural type stores.

We use J&J body wash, baby shampoo, and bubble bath. I use california baby lotion on them too. I have to read the original source articles before I can interpret this report.

    we use J&J...

quite frankly I think I'd trust the FDA over the "Campaign for Safe Cosmetics" - but again I think there are far far too many watchdog groups whose sole purpose in life is to scare the general populous into using the products that "support" the coalitions...

i use california baby or little twig for washing body or hair, lotion (including massages), etc. i like the cali baby or mustela sunscreens, as well.

i only use all natural or organic products on myself so that's all i'd use on my babies.

i've posted aobut this before but the skin deep website (referred to in the article you probably posted about) is a great resource!

I don't trust the FDA anymore. Same deal with BPA... It's still legal. And I've just read that they're trying to change laws about yogurt so they can use whatever is left of the milk after it's use for other products (forgot the name of that substance) instead of using real milk.

I might just try real soap if I can't get my hands on something better... Whole Foods is really out of the way and my back is still a mess so I can't really get out.

Thanks for this post, really interesting as I have been thinking about all the chemicals we use just lately! We use all J&J products but will read the report more thoroughly and probably make a switch. As pp its the accumulative effect of all these 'trace' amounts of crap in products that worry me. And as for that yoghurt info in pp - that sounds shocking!

Target also sells some California Baby products. Mine does at least.

we use Aveeno, the bath oatmeal, soothing cleaning lotion (creamy) and the wash&shampoo....Liana has very very dry skin and eczema here and there....I probably could use something more standard for Kaden, he's got easy skin but that will make it wayyy too many bottles in there :)

We use California Baby, because both of mine have a bit of eczema, and they really react to sodium lauryl sulfate in particular -- it's in most soaps/washes as the ingredient that causes the foam, I think.

The California Baby body wash that's completely fragrance-free is really good stuff -- expensive, but I only use a tiny bit, so it lasts a long time. I get it at Target.

i totally agree! i actually do trust the cosmetics campaign people over them.

btw, drugstore.com carries a lot of the (good) stuff we've mentioned!

I bought some California Baby... At that price I'm going to try not to use too much of it though, lol!

    Thanks for all the replies!

California Baby is WONDERFUL!!! You can buy it by the gallon from their website. What I like, is that they do not use "numbing agents" to make their products tear free. I love the way the "calming wash" smells. All of my children use this (even the almost 16 year old - sorry Syd!)
