So... when do I stop being able to see the outline of my intestines

My twins are two weeks old today, and I'm still horrified at what I can see through my belly skin: stuff I never wanted to be able to see! I know there will be some remaining diastasis and the skin itself will be forever crepey, but the thing that freaks me out most is seeing the outlines of my organs, particularly my intestines. When does this go away?? FYI, I gained 50 lbs but it was pretty much all twins and fluids, so I lost it right away. I don't have a nice layer of fat on my belly to obscure my view. (This is one time I'd LIKE some fat on my belly.) Any reassurance you can offer? **begs**

I think I'd call your OB and ask about that! I guess I had plenty of fat b/c I've never had that problem!

I can't say I ever noticed that myself & I'm fairly thin! I can say that the separation of muscles has slowly gotten better over the last 3 years. I still have a separation there & the doctor says I likely will forever, but it has gotten tons better. She also told me that, besides surgery, there isn't a lot you can do to help it along. Just time.

I agree with PP, I would call your OB. I never had that problem (not that that doesn't mean it isn't possible). I gained around 50 lbs and lost it pretty quick. I wasn't overweight to begin with and although my skin stretched out I never saw the outline of my organs. Seems weird to me.

I'm also not sure what you would be referring to...? I never noticed anything like that. My stomach is pretty much back to the way it was before pregnancy and definitely don't recall every seeing anything like that!! I think I'm pretty thin, but must have enough fat to cover this problem!

Yikes. Now I feel like a freak! I just came back from my 2-week PP appointment (which was with the nurse; I don't see my OB again for another 4 weeks), and the nurse said it's probably due to extreme diastasis from the way I carried. FYI, I went to 39 weeks 1 day, and my twins weighed 8.1 and 7.11, so I was HUGE. There was a ton of stretching, of both muscles and skin. So now I have this loose skin covering what the muscles used to cover. CREEPY. I also hemorrhaged and had a blood transfusion so I've been weak from anemia and bedridden for much of the past 2 weeks. I hope that when I begin exercising again, the muscles will tighten up a bit and cover my organs. This is seriously freaking me out. But thanks for the reassurance that over time, the muscles will tighten up again.

You sound similar to me. I'm quite small normally, carried the twins to 38+ weeks, they weighed 7 lbs 13 oz & 7 lbs 9 oz, and I gained between 50 & 60 pounds. The weight went away fairly quickly (except for this stubborn 5 pounds that I would LOVE to lose) but the stomach muscles took quite awhile. They will come back somewhat eventually, though, so hang in there!
