So when did your kids outgrow their early bedtime?

Our kids have gone to sleep from 6:30-7:00ish since the beginning. They have loved their early bedtime, but DH and I have loved it even more.

Last month we switched to beds (which has gone well). Lately, when we have been putting them to bed though, they are just wide awake. They are also crying (but staying in bed). The ONLY time that they did this while in cribs was when they were not tired or ready for bed. So I am thinking that they just are not tired at 6:30 and are starting to need less sleep. They are napping really well lately, so I think that is adding to it, and they just aren't tired by bedtime.

Tonight we put them down at 7:30, they were tired, and we had no tears. Maybe it was coincidence. But I am wondering, for those whose babies went to bed super early, at what point did you start inching their bedtime up? Or did you? I would love to have 8:00pm bedtime, if it meant no tears and long naps!

I think we switched from the 7 to 8 pm bedtime when the time changed last spring, so they weren't 2 yet. Lately mine are not napping well anymore though, so we go to bed at 7:30 on days with no naps. On the days that they do nap it sometimes takes them a while to fall asleep. They're still in cribs. It sounds like yours might be ready for a later bedtime though :) It is nice to be able to do things in the evening with them.

Kate, you are going to laugh, but my 9 and 10 year old still go to bed at 7:30 on school nights!! They do read for 1/2 hour before they go to sleep though!

We went up 30 minutes each birthday until we reached 9pm. BUT, they still take a nap at preschool. When they start kindergarten in the fall they will not nap, so bedtime with be 8 on the dot.

I'm still 7:30 with occasional 8:00 bedtime. I'll try to move back to 7:00 when the time changes, but I really don't think it will work! We'll see!! I love love love the early bedtimes as it's usually my time to eat and watch something on tv or get on TS more! w/o hubby here during the week I find that bedtime is a lot more work and I'm tuckered by the time it's done and need to relax! :)

We had to push bedtime back in order to hold on to 2 naps a while longer. The boys go to bed at 8:30. We tried the one nap thing, but they just aren't ready for it yet. Unfortunately, they still need a lot of awake time before being tired/ready for bed. I wish I could create a situation where they weren't waking up from their last nap at 4:30, but this is what we have for now.

I'm sure that when we go to 1 nap bedtime will go back to 7:30

We have been going to bed at 8 for over a year now. This weekend they have been going down even later since they woke yesterday and today past 9:00 am. Which meant that naps were also a bit later. So yesterday it 8:30 and they probably didn't fall asleep till about 9.

Mine have been going to bed at 8:00 since they were about 1yr old. Mine are mega sleepers though. They sleep 12 1/2 to 13 hrs a night and take a 2.5 to 3hr nap. So I get my time in the morning. They are still zonked out and I can get tons done. My school age children go to bed at 7pm because they have to get up at 5:30am

We still go to bed at 7pm here. No plans to change it anytime soon. They still nap from 12-3pm each day. They wake up at 6am so we eat lunch at 11;30 and then they nap. If it works for you why change a good thing.:)

Our kid's bedtime has gradually creeped later over the last couple years. Yet, they have always been on a later schedule due to my DH getting home from work late (7pm). If they went to bed before that they would never see him during the week!!

At 3.5yrs now, they go to bed around 9-9:15pm. Especially in the summer. We are outside until its dark with all the neighbor kids. They don't wake up until 8am and still take a 2hr nap in the afternoon. So I actually LOVE their schedule! I'm sure when they drop their nap, we will have to move up bedtime.

On the weekends we do so many evening outings, activities with family and friends... I can't imagine having them in bed by 6:30pm. We would miss alot. Like everything else...you go with what works best for your family. If early works...stick with it!

wow! I am jealous!!! My kiddos go to bed around 8:30 and usually are still pretty awake and don't fall asleep till usually 9pm. That is WITH a 7 or 7:30am wake up and WITHOUT a nap (most days anyways). I would kill for kids that would sleep for 12 hours at night at least, and even more for kiddos that sleep 12 hours at night AND take a nap.
