I am seriously considering getting rid of the toy box in his room because it seems to be the junk collector that he NEVER gets into unless I dump it out and clean it... Honestly he doesn't even play with anything in it .. he has 2 of those plastic 3 drawer things in his room with all his little action figures and Lego's OMG legos in it and thats all he plays with really besides the video games.... is he growing up or am I rushing him by taking the toy box out..??

way do your boys (8-9) have in their room

Joel has his marbles and marble runs, TONS of Hot Wheels tracks, train tracks, Thomas stuff (he is a huge train fan and he is 8!), tons of books, Pokemon cards, and Hot Wheels cars. He also has a Leapster and a Pokedex.

He never got into legos. I am kind of glad. He spends hours building ramps and stuff for his marbles. A friend brought over about 4 bins of Hot Wheels tracks and he builds all sorts of stuff with that.

UGH...the boys' room, it ALWAYS seems to be a huge mess! They have their video games and movies, I put them all in the dresser draweres and use those open plastic stacking bins for their clothes and hang up all their shirts (t-shirts included). Then in the closet, they have two small bookcases with books, and everything else goes in a plastic bin: hot wheels, pokemon stuff, action figures, craft stuff, pla-doh, etc. We do have one really big bin that's like a toy box but I swear they rarely play with that stuff unless I go thru it to take stuff out. They think that they have to keep EVERYTHING and it drives me nuts. It's about time for me to go thru their toys again and take out the stuff that they don't EVER play with. They do have one big bin with train tracks and trains (a lot of Thomas stuff) and they don't ever really play with that stuff but I hate to get rid of it. I think one reason that they don't play with most of the stuff is because they spend most of their time outside playing with their friends...the boys would much rather be outside than in the house which is a good thing.

My guys will be 8 in December, and all of their toys are in the basement in the playroom, so it helps them keep their room somewhat organized. In their room they have a bunk bed, two desks with drawers full of little things/toys they want to keep in their room; a bookshelf, a dresser with some stuffed animals sitting on top, a few shelfs on the walls where they keep their swimming and soccer trophies/ medals, and that's pretty much all.

My boys (age 9 & 6) have a set of bunkbeds and their two dressers in their room. They have a few toys in there that are stored in underbed storage bins. The majority of the toys are in the basement playroom. They seem to have moved away from playing with their big trucks and stuff and are more into Legos, Pokemon, Hot wheels, and video games.

By the time Jackson was 8-9, we moved the toybox out and to the basement playroom. His room is only about 10 x 11, so he has a dresser, a bookshelf, and a loft bed. DH built a small desk top under the bed for him to do homework. Also under the bed is one of those cube storage things from Target. It's wood, and we put red fabric cube drawers in four of the cube slots, so he has a place to throw little junky stuff. The other cubes hold display items and stacks of magazines he wants to keep. He has other items, like baseball card books, stored on shelves in his closet. But he really doesn't have any toys in his room. Oh, he also has a small CD boom box and a small rack of CDs. That's it.

At that age, my DS had an N-scale model railroad, lots of Lego's and K'nex, games, books and stuffed animals.
