I posted a question about RSV yesterday, thinking that maybe Bella had it. I took her to the ER at about 9:30 last night. She woke up and was retracting and working pretty hard to breath, coughing, her fever was up to 101.2, etc. The ER doc said they could test for RSV, but since it's a virus and they wouldn't do anything different if it was RSV as opposed to just a bronchial infection, they didn't actually test her for RSV. So she has bronchialytis, and we're going to follow up with her primary care doc in a few hours.

She seems to be a little bit better - she at least had a bottle and some fruit for breakfast. Yesterday she didn't eat anything and barely drank anything at all.

Have you guys noticed how tylenol is like a magic drug for babies? Once the tylenol kicks in and her fever drops she starts acting more like her normal self - smiling and clapping her hands, etc. I just think it's funny, since tylenol doesn't work like that for us adults! Too bad it doesn't!

Thanks for listening, and for everyone's advice yesterday about whether or not to take her in.

    Sara,
I'm so glad you took her in. I'm glad she's showing some improvement today. It's not easy seeing our babies sick. I hope she feels better soon and no one else gets it. [IMG]

I'm sorry she is sick! It sucks when they don't feel well. That is weird about them not testing for RSV. Even though it is a virus in the ER I work in they pretty much test all the babies for RSV and influenza. All it takes is a nasal sample and they at least know what it is. But the doc is right.. since it's a virus they can't really do anything for it except treat the symptoms. I hope she feels better soon!

Oh no, Sara. I was one who responded to your post last night. I am glad you took her. Did they put her on breathing treatments?? Try your best to keep her hydrated, that will keep her out of the hospital. RSV/bronchiolitis is no fun, 4 out of my 5 have had it when they were young babies. [IMG]
