So their first b-day party is in a few days...

I can't believe it has been almost a year and I've been busily planning their party! We are having a prince and princess theme...their individual cakes will be in shape of crowns. For the cake everyone else eats, I've been debating between doing something elaborate (considered doing a cupcake (pull-apart) cake in shape of a crown, or just go basic (like either buy a Costco cake or bake a regular cake). I'm leaning towards basic for sanity reasons. Then I just realized I have planned nothing for games for all the other kids that will be there. Should I have games for them??? If so, any ideas?

I've been to several first birthday parties in the past few years and none of them have had games. At our girls' first party we had cookie decorating for the older kids. They had a good time decorating and then eating the cookies. We did Halloween cookies b/c their birthday is 1 week before Halloween but you could do cookies in the shape of crowns if you wanted. My mom baked a bunch of sugar cookies before the party. Just an idea, I don't know the age of the kids who are going to be at the party.

 

Yeah I don't think anybody will expect games at a 1 year olds party. It would be neat to do the cookie idea mentioned using cookies shaped into the #1 or you could have a table set up with a bunch of cupcakes and different things to decorate them with and then guests could just eat cupcakes.

 

some ideas for kids ages 1 (LOL) to 5ish -
coloring - get coloring books or large roll of plain paper and throw crayons everywhere
bean bag toss
tunnel

 

We didn't do games for any of our kids first birthday parties. I do like the idea of decorating cookies though, I'm sure they would love that!
