so sick of all the spit up

I guess I should be grateful that they seem to be "happy spitter" for the most part, but I'm just so sick and tired of it. I'm covered in puke from head to toe, my living room carpet is full of it, as they wont stay on their blanket anymore, and I don't see any improvment in sight. I would just love to hold my babies without fear of getting puked on, and maybe not go through countless bibs and outfits a day. It would also be a lot more fun to cuddle them if they weren't so damp and sticky. Sorry to vent; it's just been a long and messy day. DS looks like he's going to crawl any day now, so I guess I will have it all over the house soon. Yuck.

 I am sorry that you have to go through that. Ours wore bibs for the first 10 months due to spit up...I would try to keep them calm and upright after eating to reduce the spit up...it worked some of the time but when they were mobile, it was difficult to do.

I hear ya...and it does get worse the more they start moving on their bellies! Its pretty bad when DH says to me today "You know, for Christmas we should spring and have all the carpets cleaned" Ooo, just what I always wanted!

Luke was a happy spitter too. It got to the point that only my husband & I would hold him because no one else wanted to get barfed on! They do get over it eventually. Luke started improving somewhat when he could sit unassisted & got even better when he could stand. By 1 he was hardly ever spitting. So, hang in there, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

 My neice was also a happy spitter. She had to wear a bib 24/7 for almost the whole first year.

They will stop at some point, I promise!

I hear you also! Both of my guys are spitters also. Right now I'm watching my DD jump in a jolly jumper and spit up at the same time. I love how my hair is crunchy with dried spit-up. Or when my MIL says I should change them each time they spit up. Or when other people want to hold them and I tell them to be careful because they spit up and I get a look like 'can it really be that bad' and then the baby will spit up and cover them in it, and then I get the look of disgust. Or when I'm out with them and people will say 'oh, she spit up' and I look and she has a little dribble coming out of her mouth. In my world, that's not considered spit-up. I worry when we have the spit-up waterfalls. Ahhhh....that feels better...thanks!

I'm sorry you're going through this; I can totally relate. Nate is a puke-bot. I'm going to have to get the carpets cleaned or maybe even replaced, because they smell like barf. My sister was visiting and asked if I was going to change him after he spit up. I was like "what's the point"; he'll just spit up again in an hour or so! I'd go through 10 sets of clothes a day if I changed him every time he spit up on himself!

It is starting to get better; I think the solids stay down a bit more. Though last night he puked up yogurt and a lone pea.

I feel your frustration.. My boys would spit up throughout all of their feedings and as soon as they would go down for naps. I would be covered, they would be covered, my floor, I would have tons of laundry at the end of each day. Around 3 months old, our pedi had us add a tiny bit of cereal to their bottles (1tsp for every oz). Just enough to thicken it up a little bit. And I don't put them right in their crib after feeding. Both have helped out alot. After I feed one of the boys, I put him in his swing while I feed his brother. When he is done, I will rock him or put him in his swing for 25 - 30 mins. Then I will transfer both of them to their crib.. For the past month, the spit ups have been minimal. Good luck!

I'm right there with you. With mine, it's whole bottles at the time sometimes. I'm so sick of stripping car seat covers off and bouncy seat covers and swing covers, and on and on. We now have beach towels in every room in case one of ours decides to spit up or puke up a bottle at any moment. Yesterday Andy got our hallway rug, my shirt and his soft puppy blanket that he loves to hold. The world stops when I have to wash one of those blanket toys. The boys don't understand that they can't play and hold a toy covered in spit up. Good luck. We'll make it through and realize one day that they're not spitting up anymore. I can't wait for that day

Have you considered using a different bottle? I used the Born Free bottles which have a valve system in place. I thought between two babies at least one of them would spit up...but neither of them really did. I can probably count on my hands how many times they spit up the first year and one of them had bad reflux.

 sorry your having a bad day of it!!! One of my girls spit up has improved greatly since starting solids, the other not so much but i'm assured that it improves with age. Hopefully it wont be too long until the situation improves for you.

It's good to know I'm not alone! I think I've tried everything to reduce the spit up, but I think it's just one of those things that time alone will fix. They do better at night when they fall asleep right after being fed, so I think they would do better during the day if they would just relax, but that's not going to happen. LOL
Leppette: I can totally picture your DD jumping and spewing! :rotflmbo: That sounds like mine.
TarusTwins: I use Born Free too. I love the bottles, but apparently they haven't helped with the spit up. I also thicken with rice. They spit that up too; and now that I've started solids I get to be covered in peas AND curdled milk. Nice.

I totally relate. :( I hope all our LOs outgrow this soon!! Our pedi did say they usually start getting better when they can sit up unassisted, and I think mine are getting close to that ... (starting solids hasn't helped though; like you said, it just changes the color of the spitup! ;)).
