Dd has been able to open the car door from the outside for a while (making walks intersting when she is trying to open everyone's car doors :pardon: ).

Well today as I am driving down the road, a 4-lane major thorough fare, she opens the car door!!!!! I about died :shok:

I knew she couldn't get it closed so I kept driving until I could safely pull over and get out and shut it  The whole time ds is saying to her "no, no, no, no Molly".....so once I got the door shut and back on the road, with the doors LOCKED, I couldn't help but laugh, lol. I never even considered for a moment that could happen!!!!

Yikes! Mine love to lock their doors with their feet while I'm driving, but as far as I know they can't unlock or open them. I know they can't reach with their hands. But my mom was riding back there with them on a recent visit and said their agility with their feet was making her very nervous. I need to figure out how to activate the child safety locks.

Mine are a loooong way from figuring out the buckle -- then again, they couldn't open doors from the outside at 21 months either. Sounds like you have some very advanced kiddos. :D

Check on the inside front part of the door, if the car was made in the last 10 years, there should be a child safety switch that you can turn on. It will make it so it is impossible to open the doors from the inside.

Child safety locks are usually right on the inside of the door jam. Look on the door itself, usually right about where it curves around the wheel. Should be a switch. It won't allow adults riding in the back to oen the doors from the inside either, just an FYI.

Yikes! That must have been scary! Yes, the doors should have locks in the sides of them.

That had to be scary. My neice recently did that and I showed my sister where the child saftey locks are on her car doors.

I have had the saftey locks on mine and DH's cars for years before the girls were born because I was always afraid my dogs would accidently open a door one day. I also have my windows locked in all the cars too.

Yikes, definitely change the safety locks. Unfortunately I still have them on even though my children are older, one of my children closed their foot in their door and couldn't open the door to get it out because I had the child safety locks on. They had to wait for me to unbuckle and run around to open the door from the outside. I still haven't changed the locks because honestly I am not sure which is worse but ugghhh you think you are doing the right thing and keeping them safe and then it actually ends up literally hurting them!

Ditto on the child lock on the car doors. All cars have them. Check your manual.

Fortunately mine haven't done that one yet. They can get out of the car seats though. No matter how tight they are strapped in. Check those child safe locks and hope for the best. I find I have to pull over at least once a week to get someone strapped back in to their seats.

Ditto this and I always lock the door when driving. My brother fell out of a moving car and was saved by his seatbelt. A locked door will hold it closed vs an unlatched door!

Most cars have the child locks that are really easy to activate. I know in my car and in my MIL's car you have to stick a key in to turn the locks on (but any key). In my DH's car it is a button and it locks both doors. A fact I forgot when I took his car and closed the door while siting in the backseat in the pouring rain to strap the girls in. I had to climb into the front seat.
