So much for that theory...

Trevor finally went and used the potty on his own the other night. I let them run naked for a little while after their bath and he went and peed in the potty on his own. Trent has done this a number of times. They still don't tell me when they need to go but this suggested that they do have enough advanced warning to at least run to the potty and sit. So, I thought I'd let them go naked this morning for a while and just put their potty chairs where they could get to them quickly. Then I watched for signs that they needed to go and asked them when they had that look if were ready to use their potty. HA! They held it and held it and eventually I had to go potty myself and while I was gone both peed on the floor near the potty chairs.

 

Unfortunately, that will happen quite a bit in the beginning. That doesn't mean they aren't ready...it just takes time and patience. Good luck!

 

OK, so I tried it again this morning and they both went IN THE POTTIES ON THEIR OWN!!! Trevor pooped and doesn't like to carry the bowl with poop in it but Trent carried his to the potty and dumped/rinsed it himself. I did a huge happy dance. The plan is to keep doing this and have a few more successes before I add the step of pushing down underwear. After they are good with that, we'll put on pants over the underwear. THEN, we'll tackle using the big potty with the step stool instead. Because of the house layout, I can't give them access to the big potty without giving access to the kitchen/dining room so we're working on having full access more often. I'm hoping that once they're trained at home, they'll learn to tell me when they need to go when we're out. They're just so darned independent that asking for help is a tough one.

Well, we're "naked trained" so as long as they can go naked and there's a toilet with a stepstool or a small potty nearby, we're golden :rotflmbo: They've decided they no longer want to use the potty rings so they just climb up and use the big potty holding themselves up. It doesn't look comfortable at all but whatever works, right? The undies aren't going so well. Trent pushed them down to go once but then decided it would be easier to just not wear them. Trevor saw Trent take his off and copied. They wouldn't leave them on after that.

I'm starting to think the people who say their kids "got it" in a day are LYING

 

hi there. sounds like my zachy is right up with your boys. if naked he will go on potty 55% of the time. but he did the same thing yesterday. He had 15 oz of juice with lots of water in his belly. we were reading books and i would ask every so often about the need to go potty. nothing. well low and behold i had to go and he peed on the floor outside the bathroom. LOL.
