My sister has fraternal twin boys, who are 3 now. She had a singleton boy a year or so after them (oops). I had a singleton boy, and am now pregnant with identicals. I thought I was safe with twins...I mean what are the chances of me having them after her right?

So great, I am having identical girls...how cool. Well my sister is now 2 months pregnant, with twins...fraternals, AGAIN!

Come on...what are the chances? I mean I know once you have fraternals, your chance increases, cause you are prone to two eggs or whatever, but 3 sets of twins in 2 sisters! Is that not insane?

Had to share...the news was just found out recently when she had an ultrasound.

Anyone else have a similar situation? All I have to say is, in the future, if anyone has twin questions, I think we will have the answers! haha

That is very cool!! :good: I don't know what the exact statistics are, but as I am sure you are well aware, things like that do happen. My mom has identical twin boys and I have identical twin girls. Our due dates were 20 years apart to the day!

Congrats to your sis! Very cool story ...

We laugh because when I tell people that I have twins, and my sister is having twins they always say "Wow! They must run in the family!" and I say "No, but infertility seems to!"

Twins supposedly run in the female side of the family, though they say identicals do not. Every woman (and my mom has it linked back 5 generations) on my mom's side has either had or miscarried twins. I have identical boys who had TWO placentas. Does your sister know for sure that her kids are fraternal? I really believe twins are hereditary and we'll see if my sister can prove it. I'll give her a few years though since she just got married! ;)

Wow great stories. its amazing to hear stuff like this...about 5 years ago, my sister and I knew nothing about us all!

Kyrstyn very cool about you and mom having identicals 20 years apart...wow!

Caba - that is hysterical! My sister and I were both spontaneous...no IVF or anything here. haha

MommyMeg - tell your sister to be prepared :)

My grandmother (dads mom) had fraternal twins, boy and girl. So it is in our family..genetics. I know identicals arent said to be genetic or anything.

Cool story though - makes for an interesting family! haha

My sis -in-law and I both have frat twins. Mine are 8 months older than hers. She's glad I went first, so she can ask questions. I wish SHE went first!!!

I just hate having to explain to everyone "yes, they run in her family, but that can't affect ME!"

Our two sets will be in the same SS class and grade at school.... Yikes! I'm not teaching that class!

That's great that you have your sister to share this with! My sister has been a great resource for me- throughout my pg and now. I never thought I'd have twins, either, esp after my sister had her girls. Congratulations on both of your twins!!

My sister has IDENTICAL twins that will be turning 2 just about the time I give birth to my TWINS! My twins are Di Di twins so most likely fraternal. I thought I was in the clear for having twins but I guess not...

Genetics has some play. We have 19 sets in 4 generations, 4 of those sets being id and 4 sets being just in the current generation and all spontaneous. What's really bad for me and my sis is have two bloodlines(mom and dad) that have plenty of with twins that married making them more prominent

How fun! Our family is the exact opposite. There are no twins at all except our set and that's going back into the family tree and including all the branches of both sets of my grandparents' brothers' & sisters' descendents. There's tons of us but no other twins!

We have the same sort of thing, my bro and sil had fraternal twin girls Jan '08. Now we're expecting Fraternal twin boys. It runs pretty far back on my dads side of the family so I never thought it'd happen to me, plus having two singleton preg b/f hand I just thought we were made to have 1 baby at a time. I HATE explaining to ppl that yes there are twins in the family but they really have nothing to do w the other!

That is interesting I thought it only happened like once every generation. Looks like you guys lucked out. Good luck with everything.
