No joke - I park about as far away as I can and it never fails that someone parks right next to me. I have dinged plenty of doors with my big a** SUV doors and felt no remorse about doing so.

Oh, I hate when that happens! Vent! Vent! Vent! It's better to do it here then to take a bat to their car. :p

Vent away it has happened to me too! (several times infact) I always park as far away from other cars to try and prevent it but it never fails someone always chooses to park right next to me. Just last week I stopped at the grocery store for a few things come back out and no lie this car was parked less than a foot away from my car. I had to climb in from the passengers side over DS's carseat to put DD in her carseat (regular car not suv/van so not very fun) and then after that had to climb myself in from the passengers side. The man came out just as I was climbing into my seat and just kinda smirked. I had some not so nice words I wanted to say to him but just started my car and left

I actually thought the same thing about needing a sign that says please do no park within XX feet of the sides or rear of my car.

I too have a big SUV and park way out there so I have plenty of room to open my doors and get everyone in and out. And I don't mean to hijack your post, but I have to share this because it just happened to me a few days ago....

I came out of Super Target and was putting the girls in the truck. I had the liftgate open, the sbs stroller next to me and I loaded one kid in on the driver side and was pushing the other around to put her in when a mini van drives past me and then pulls in right next to the truck on the passenger side. When I walked around the end of my vehicle I realized that she had parked so close there was no way I was going to have room to open the back door to get Baylinn in. As I stood there fuming, she got her stroller out of the back of the van. When she looked up and saw me staring at her, she SMILED at me...completely oblivious to why I was just standing there.

Ok....here is where I lost it. I asked her if she really needed to park that close? there are ALL these other spaces! didn't she see my sbs stroller? my liftgate open? i said 'you're a mom too, don't you pay attention to where you're parking?' she stood there staring at me with her mouth hanging open. i was waving my hands around saying that i didn't understand people, she was a MOM for pete's sake, going on and on....until she quietly said "I'll move" and she folded her stroller back up, got back in the van and actually moved it to another space!

I am never confrontational so I really am not sure where this came from, but I bet she thinks before she parks next time!

Oh, I have a twins on board sign and they still do that, and they park so close you can barely get the door open.

OMG!!! One of my neighbors JUST did this to me!!! Like they HAVENT seen me lugging like ~50lbs of baby+carseats down 3 flights of stairs out to the car in the freezing cold! Not to mention they took all the good spots so I was the furthest away from the door in the gravel!

    People suck! <_<

So seriously i have had to clime through the "trunk" of my SUV and take the head rest off of the seat and then lock DD in the car..

    Hi Ashley!

Biggest pet peeve in the whole wide world... vent, vent, vent away :) . I have never maliciously damaged another persons property... but you know those window warning stickers? I'd love to have a stack of those!!! "Attention MORON, I am parked in the boondocks for a reason. Did you not notice the THREE carseats in my vehicle???" Etceteras, etceteras....

I'm not juggling the twins yet, but I do have a "fun" experience to share from the other day. I parked far away so I can get my big belly out of my van, and an older gentleman in a mercedes parks too close... I was still sitting there, so I nicely asked him to come and protect his car while I climbed out of mine since I could not be held responsible for losing my balance and caving in his quarter panel... he did and he was chuckling until I was out and he got a good look at me :D

I was just having a conversation the other day about this. I too have a big SUV and my brother drives a big dualie pickup so we feel each others pain I sometimes think people do it out of spite but that is only a theory. It makes me crazy though I can’t count the number of times some one has parked so close I cant get back in, and the other day I was sitting my truck waiting for DH and some one parked so close I couldn’t open my door and then slammed their car door in to my mirror.makes me ponder what happens to my poor truck when I am not around. <_<

It's almost enough to make me want to park across 2 spaces sometimes. Luckily I have a van so the back doors slide, but still it would be nice to get to my seat without having to climb over my children.

I am right next to you venting with you. We have special wide parking spaces for moms with babies and tots. But some a$$ with no kids will park in the spot. And there are normally only about 5 such parking spots at the mall. One day I am going to totally blow it and my good upbringing will be hsitory.

Vent away! I feel the same way about people marking next to me! I park WAY far away in the lot anyway to make sure I've got plenty of room so I get a little peeved when someone parks right next to me when there are plenty of spaces closer to the store! <_<

I guesss that's the benefit of a minivan because the doors slide open. Honestly I have never had that problem. Looks like I am in the minority here.

I totally understand! I always park far away too so I can get in and out of the car easily... and yes I've had people park right next to me... one person was actually trying to pull into a spot next to me as I was getting the girls out of the car one day. Hello?! Double stroller!!! Can you give me some room please!?!

If you can't vent here, where else can you vent? :)

There is actually a commercial about the same thing. I forget what they are advertising, but there is a car that parks far away from everyone else and when the guy comes back to it, everyone is parked around him. It's a law of nature or something!

This happened to me about a month ago at our post office. I always park in a spot where I know I can get into one side of the car (ie cart storage, tree, no parking sign, etc). So I went into the PO and on the way out was gawked at my these two women. (you know some people can be polite about it and others are just rude). I get to the car, put Jake in and go to the other side to put in Ryan. I can't open the door wide enough for the carrier. So I sat in my cargo area (suv) and fumed until the two ladies came out. I stood up, asked if they had the car next to me and ripped into them. I said "I can't believe people can be so rude! You really need to pay attention to others. Did you not see the baby crap hanging and the TWO monkey mirrors??" I told her I hoped she learned to be considerate of others. Speechless, she got into her car and as she was leaving gave me the hand sign like "what do you mean you couldn't fit??". UGH!

Thanks for letting me vent! :) I would hand write the sign suggested and tape it to my window, but I know the people who park close are the kind of idiots who wouldn't read it.

That happened to me about 3 months ago and I actually waited for the guy to come back to his car. I let him have it and told him that he needed to be more considerate of other peoples cars. He seen that I had twins and was extremely shocked that I waited to tell him off. I told him that he was lucky that I didn't cause at least $1000 of damage because he parked next to me, but at a slant. There was more space to get in at the from of my car. There was only 1 foot between the back of my car and his truck! He didn't really even know what to say but that he was sorry.

Leave it up to a guy to be in a hurry to buy a stinking fishing pole on a Saturday and say that they were in a hurry to get back to the boat! <_< WHAT!???? :icon_eek: I don't even think so!

The next time that happens to me I am taking the tag number and either taking it into the store to call the nice shopper that their vehicle needs to be attended to or I will have it towed :D . People don't even care about other people anymore!

    Lots of love!

I've kinda been watching this post and checking back in to see what everyone's response was, and I have to say I'm really a bit surprised. I can understand venting here on TS and the frustration and difficulty it may cause when someone parks next to you, but what I can't believe is that we expect other people to pay that much attention to our vehicle and our situation. People without kids, or even those with kids who are pre-occupied, are not going to realize it’s that big of a deal. I know my Mom always parks far away so she can get extra exercise in. She’s the kindest woman in the world, but she probably wouldn’t think twice about parking next to someone far away. I would be appalled if someone purposely slammed into her car door or chastised her for being thoughtless.

Most people have busy lives just like we do, and they are just doing the best they can each day. Prior to having twins, and heck probably most days now, even I don't pay any attention to who I park next to, and I don't think that says anything about me as a person. That being said, I will probably pay a bit more attention now since I now know it can cause so much frustration for other Moms!

    Just my opinion, Suzi

I have a minivan that of course has doors that slide open and people STILL find a way to park too close sometimes. It makes me furious! I understand people are in a hurry and sometimes parking next to a van, they think they can park closer and it is no big deal. It used to be pretty difficult for me though when they were still in their infant carriers.
