So I decided to turn the TV off for a couple of days

After the posts regarding TV and having it on a lot I decided just to switch it off for a couple of days and try to read or do crosswords or sudoko to try and get my brain working more than anything else! As well as play with the babes of course. So after 2 days Elliot became noticeably easier to put down for naps and bedtime. He didn't fuss nearly as much - even my husband noticed it and commented and I hadn't told him about the TV. He is just a lot calmer at sleep times. More crosswords and reading for me then! Coincidence? An age thing? mmmmmmm ......

That's why we banned Eli. It really can make them jittery.

Wonderful! I think it's hard to tell, but who cares if it seems to be working!!!

I have gotten so used to having the TV off during the day that I don't watch it now, even though they have started school. In my mind, TV is a night-time activity. (Note: they are older now and they do have their certain PBS shows that they will watch if it is a school holiday, but I limit their viewing pretty strictly.)

I grew up in a TV-free home, and I find it very difficult to relax after watching television. I sleep much better if I read or knit before bed. If I watch TV it makes me jittery and jumpy. I can certainly see a child being the same way. :)

Good luck with your TV experiment. I hope it continues to yield good results for you. :)

That's cool to hear! I even went to far as to cancel my cable television. I still have cable internet so that we can watch our favorite shows in the evening and we can pick up cbs with hdtv box. Cutting back on the tv is a $$$ saver as well!

That is awesome! I honestly would not mind at all if we did not have a television. I never turn it on. (ok, that's not true, when the weather is sucky and I have to exercise inside, I turn it on while I do the elliptical, to make the time pass more quickly) DH and DS are addicted though. I'd much rather work on crafts, read, play with the kids, sew, crosswords, browse the internet, pretty much anything besides watch tv.

I'm going to try it just to see if I notice anything. I'm going to keep it off unless there is really something on that I want to watch. Most of the time it's just background noise really.

its great u have figured that out. I notice such a major difference in my girls if they watch too much tv, an odd show while I shower doesn't affect them, but too much for sure.
