Ok like most of us on here I have my reg OB,and a High Risk doctor. On June 2nd I was checked into hosp for short cervix,1.6 @ 25.4 weeks. My OB addmitted me ,put me on procardia, and ordered strict bedrest(no bathroom),and gave me the betamethasone shots for the boys. The next day I got a repeat scan and my cervix was 2.5,and even the tech was confused why I was there.
I was discharged and sent home on strict BR ordered by my OB

Ok the following week I went to PERI,and My cervix was 2.93,and he said I could increase my activty"a little",but ordered the p-17 shots, and a IHUM...so he could track my contactions twice daily.

Now yesterday I saw my OBs Partner(reg OB in surgery),and he said my cervix was 3.0,and that was excellent for 29 weeks compared to what it was. He was surprised I was on the p-17,and I never have more than one contraction on my readings I do twice a day.So he said I could resume activity @ 32 weeks?????? Stll with no lifting,or sex etc.

Im so confused one doc says Ill be in bed till delivery, one says I can increase "alittle"activity, and one says I can get up @ 32 weeks...who do I listen to????

What to do? Are my cervical measurements "that scary" Or no?,and Im not contracting anymore now that Im on p-17,and procardia..Anyone else had experience like this?

So sorry I can't help you. Maybe the first measurements were off? I would still err on the side of caution but maybe ask your OB about the differing opinions and measurements if he's around. (Was he off that day you saw his partner?) This can all be so confusing especially when you've got so many different opinions. Hang in there!

Ha! I'm right there with you! I've been in L&D twice now - once for pressure in the pelvis (where they saw contractions every 2 minutes) and once for close contractions (every 2-4 minutes). Both times I've been told my cervix was long and closed. My perinatologist has measured it near 4 cm twice - each time within a week of the L&D visit - and said I didn't need bed rest or procardia, in fact apologized for doing a really good job of making me anxious. OB wants me on strict bed rest and procardia. In my situation at least, the peri has been much better at explaining the whys of his recommendations while the OB just flat out says it...which makes me a little unhappy with OB. I am taking it easy but am not doing the 24/7 lying on my left or right side. I am taking the procardia because I figure it can't hurt and may help. Even the OB said they probably wouldn't see all the contractions at the hospital (and I wouldn't feel them) if I weren't a skinny little thing. She said and the docs at the first hospital said that if weighed an additional 50 pounds they probably wouldn't even pick up the contractions with the monitors and I wouldn't be there at all. Perinatologist said that if the contractions get close together to get up and walk for 15-20 minutes and if they start to space out, I'm ok, if they don't to go in. I would say to go with your gut - take it easy and if your body tells you you're doing too much (even if too much is sitting up!), then back off. At my next OB appointment we're definitely going to revisit the bedrest thing (again).

Since they do the cervical measurements via u/s it is very easy to get different measurements, especially if different people are doing it on different machines. All it takes is one little click just a bit "off" or even over or a different angle and the end result will be a different measurement. With that being said it sounds like your cervix is improving, but I would still take it easy and take whatever precautionary measures you can. Best of luck to you you!!

I would stick to the bedrest! Always better to err on the side of caution :)
You could also check in with your OB & tell him/her what the peri. said & that you are confused ~ I am sure a little communication between them wouldn't hurt :good:

    Hang in there!

I have no idea, but I would probably try and take it as easy as possible.

I can tell you from my past experience, YOU will NOT regret taking it very easy over the next few weeks. The longer you can keep these babies in the better off for each of you!

I wish you well and you are going to have to take the bull by the horns here and do what you feel is right.

    :)
