My OB/GYN - whom I ADORE - had twins last year. She told me that she gained only 20 lbs when she was pregnant! She is super fit, super active, and pretty small in size (average height, but small frame). I can honestly say that if I only gain 20 lbs in this pregnancy, it would be a MIRACLE. I gained at least 60 with my first.

But on the flip side, I haven't weighed myself in about 2 weeks and still have only a 2lb gain from the day I found out I was PG. I am quite amazed at this fact. Over the past couple of weeks I've felt pretty good - minus a few sickly moments and hours - but for the most part, I eat well, eat often, and eat fatty food (the healthy kind, like avacados, yogurt, etc). I am surprised my body hasn't packed on more - I am just plain PRONE to it!

Oh, and since I can't have aspartame, I've been eating regular yogurt and I don't think I will able to EVER go back to the sweetened stuff. GAWD, the full-flavor (sugar added) yogurt is SOOOOOO GOOOOOD! I don't know if I've EVER had this kind before - I always got the lower cal stuff. YUMMY! I've been eating two a day, at least!

I think I only gained 2-5 lbs in my first trimester. I started freaking out because the twin books say you should gain 20 lbs by 20 weeks and I didn't see that happening! Somehow, it started piling on though, I ended up gaining 53 lbs by the time I had them at 38.5 weeks. Everyone is different though, so I wouldn't worry! My SIL was a little overweight and she only gained 16 pounds with her twins. She did deliver around 31 weeks though.

It sounds like you're eating all the right things. To give me extra calories, plus I love them, I'd have shakes with almost any meal I ate out! There are some advantages to having to eat for 3! :D

Sounds like things are going well for you! I just had my 28 week appointment and gained another 7 lbs! I am up to 29 lbs total so far. With my last pregnancy (a singleton) I only gained 19 lbs. I am a pretty healthy eater, and most people tell me it looks like I am "all babies" but it's hard to put your head around all that weight sometimes! Remember to keep eating though, even when you are not too hungry, because as you get further along, your tummy will get squished and it will be hard to eat more than a few bites at a time!! Good luck and keep us posted!!!

I am 17w and have only gained five pounds since October. As a matter of fact, I lost about 20 pounds during the 1st trimester due to nausea, vomiting and not eating. I am so happy that I can eat know. At my first peri appointment about three weeks ago, each baby weighed five ounces. I found this surprising as I had not been eating. At four months, I barely look pregnant. Don't worry about how much you have gained thus far as I am sure the pounds will start coming rather quickly!

I have only gained 8 lbs, at 22 weeks. We must be doing something right though, cuz the babies were both 1lb, 2oz at my last u/s! I think you are doing great. As long as you are eating healthy, you have nothing to worry about. My Peri told me that as long as I am eating my meals, and eating healthy, then not to worry about weight. He said unless you are extremely underweight, the babies are amazing at finding the nutrition in your own body to fatten them up and to help them grow.

As of 23 weeks I was up 12 lbs. We'll see what happens at 27 weeks lol But at my u/s BabyA was 1lb and BabyB was 13oz so I think they are doing ok.

    I gained 30 with DS.

I really didn't gain much until about 18/19 weeks. Then it all seemed to come at once. I am now up 43 pounds. Not too bad for 35 weeks. Babies are big and healthy, so that is all that matters to me.

Don't worry about the lack of weight gain. I am currently 38 weeks/2days and I have only gained 10 pounds from the start of the pregnancy. I was a little heavy before, so I think that the rest of my body may have lost weight. The babies are each about 7 pounds- and still growing, and noone has ever been concerned about the lack of weight gain for me at any point! Eat up the calories now while you can- becasue trust me, it gets really hard to eat in the later stages, with heartburn and lack of space!!!!

Wow this post made me feel better. I'm 8 weeks and I have lost weight. I was starting to get worried. And I am one of the lucky ones with little to no morning sickness, I just can't figure how I am loosing, and not gaining from it. I eat more now then I did before I was pregnant.

if you think those are good ... you should try the whole-milk yogurts, like Stonyfield Farms, or Brown Cow. They are way better than the Dannon stuff!!

Wow, I don't eat that much more than I did pre-preg. but I have already gained about 36# and I am 24 weeks. Yet my babies at last check were in the 11th and 30th percentiles. We will see on Monday if they have gotten bigger. They must have because I look like all baby, I haven't really gained any more weight in other areas except my belly and it doesn't look "fat". I don't know, as long as they are healthy, I don't care. Sounds like you are doing fine, babies take the nutrients from your food first and you get whats left, so they should be fine.
