Another question from an expecting twin mom!

This is probably a silly question, but I just found out about the Graco SafeSeat today, and it's increase weight and height allowances from a typical infant carrier seat! I don't think I have any stores around me that carry it on the floor so I can "test drive" it, but I was wondering - is the SafeSeat more difficult to carry than something like the SnugRide, with lower weight/height limits? Is it heavier or bulkier/more awkward? I'd love to invest in infant carseats that I'll be able to use for longer - I had an Evenflo infant seat from a travel system with DS and he was out of it at 4 months old. But, if they are more difficult to actually carry (I'm kinda short), I'm not sure of the trade off.

    BTDT moms - thoughts?? TIA!!

I have the Safet Seat, and I really like it. My boys will be one in just under a month, and they still fit in it. I'd say they are above average size for twins, but average size compared to singletons.

It is kind of bulky, and doesn't fit well in a small car, and compared to the snug ride it does seem heavier. I very rarely carried both of them at the same time in these seats they are just too heavy. Although it wouldn't be much easier to carry them simultaneously in the smaller seats either.

I used the double snap and go and that's how we got around (the newer model that is gray, not the old blue one, and they do fit into it).

What I'm most happy about is how long it's lasted, and the fact that I'm not gonna have to buy a 3 way convertible carseat when they are one.

I had a SafeSeat for my first and I have Snugrides for the twins. I really liked the SafeSeat because of the higher weight limit. It is a nice seat but it is definitely bigger than the Snugrides. But to be honest once the babies get bigger and closer to the weight limits you probably won't be carrying them around a ton in the seats anyways ;) ! It does last a little bit longer so it can be worth the extra $. My oldest just grew out of the SafeSeat right before he turned one.

I have both the snugride and the safeseat. The Safeseat is slightly bigger and heavier, but I love that it will last longer. To me it is not any more akward to carry. It fits in the Graco DuoGlider stroller too just like the snugride.

    GL!

I don't have the safeseat so I don't have any actual experience, but for us, by about 6-7 months of age my kids are ready to be moved to a convertible seat. So the snugride has plenty of height/weight for those first 6 months of age :)

My older daughter was a big baby (9.12 at birth), and outgrew the snugride at 6 months old, and I can't imagine having to lug not one, but 2 20+ lb babes around in two safeseat's, kwim? I'd much rather invest in convertibles down the road and a good double stroller than have to carry their infant seat's too much! :D

That's just my two cents! :D

I have the SafeSeats and I love them. Yes, they are a bit heavier, but my babies still fit in them so if they fall asleep in the car, I can just carry them inside in the seats without having to wake them. I had the Quattro Tour Duo stroller that the seats just snapped into and now I use a SBS stroller.

I guess my twins are huge then! I have the safeseat in ionic with the quattro tour duo glider and they are already really heavy! They are 15 lbs each and I already want them to be in a big car seat! Their feet are at the edge of the seat already! I love the car seat itself but I dont see them in it any longer than my other children did and we had the EVENFLO as well with my other two sons. All my kiddos were (and are about to be) out of it by 20lbs (around 5 months old with my other two, and maybe 6 months old with the twins!). I think its mainly beacasue they are just too heavy! I cant imagine them being in it until they are one!!! no way!!!

OK, I'll be the SafeSeat dissenter. :)

We had SnugRides for the girls, and have a SafeSeat for Caleb. I thought it was a good buy with the higher weight/height limit, as the girls grew out of the SnugRides by 6 months (they were much bigger babies than Caleb). However, maybe I'm a wimp, but by 15 lbs, my arm felt like it was going to fall off carrying the SafeSeat. Also, and here's my main beef about it, because it's a bit larger, it does not fit into the front of a grocery cart or those restaurant infant seat slings. Right now, Caleb is 17 lbs and he's got a ways to go in the SafeSeat, but I've just been leaving it in the car and I carry him or put him in the stroller. It's pointless to try to bring him in still the seat when he falls asleep as he just wakes up as soon as I bring him in anyway. It did work fine in my Snap N Go, so that was a positive.

The new design that you are speaking of is actaully called the Snugride 32. It looks kinda like a mix of the two seats...Babies R Us here has them...they are real nice...my g/f bought one for her daughter.
