Snow boots

Last year I couldn't find boots for my kids because no one makes boots for walkers with size 2-3 feet. So I wound up buying some waterproof infant booties that go over the shoes, which we only used once or twice -- if it was snowy enough that they needed boots, they didn't want to be out in it anyway.

Do you think 2-year-olds are going to be more interested in playing in snow than 1-year-olds were? And are puffy snow boots hard to walk in? I'm trying to decide whether to get real snow boots, or just sturdier shoes (like hiking boots).

When Caroline was 2 we did get her snow boots because we did take her outside to play in the snow and she loved it. I am hoping to find snow boots for Emilie and Trevor this year because I'm sure they will like the snow too. So I think you do need them, if you plan to go out in the snow. But maybe the sturdier hiking boots will work too, I don't know about those.

If I lived somewhere I had to worry about such questions (hehe), I would get regular snow boots instead of lace up style boots. I know from past experience that snow has a way of seeping in the shoelace area and getting feet nice and cold. I don't know what all is out there now but I grew up in moon boots (that's what the called the puffy ones), but of course I don't remember what it was like walking in them at that age.

80" of snow annually here and i always get the snow boots -- the kind which lace up and have the removable liners in them . I usually pull the snow pants down on top of the laces. The girls were 18 months last year and they enjoyed playing in the snow for 5-15 min at the time... the problem wasn't cold/wet feet it was their hands!!!! They were able to walk in the bulky snow pants and ski jackets and boots, but they sorta reminded me of "pillsbury dough-boy meets Michelin tire man". They really waddled but were able to maintain balance.

Great question!! I am from North Carolina, but I live in New Jersey now. My girls are 14 months old....I keep asking myself the same question....am I supposed to get them snow boots and snow suits?????

People just didn't invest in those sorts of things in NC.....but this past winter (they were too little to go out in the snow) it seemed like the winter lasted FOREVER and that it snowed a LOT.....

Is anyone from New Jersey??? Can you give me some advice too???

I would. NJ gets snow and I'm sure your girls will like to go out in it.

It sounds like snow boots are a must-have this year! Good thing I saw a few really cute pairs on ebay... ;)
I agree about the hands, though. We do have little mittens for them, but somehow I don't see them really staying on...

Yes, the girls had snow boots at that age. Then mine were three I bought the boots big so they could get two years out of them and that worked out for us. But, at two I wouldn't recommend that. I would buy the right size. They don't have to be really expensive boots since they don't use them too much.

BTW - doubledownmom - I am in NJ and the past few winters have been really snowy. What part of NJ are you from? Coastal areas don't get as much snow but the farther north and west you go the more snow you get (ie. Sussex and Warren Counties). I live in Bergen County and the past years they've used their snow gear.

Mine wore their rain boots with 2 pairs of socks! They only went out in the snow a handful of times, so we didn't buy snow boots.
