Snoring/choking in my sleep

Okay, for the second night in a row my DH had to wake me up because I was snoring so loudly he could not sleep. I feel awful as I wake him up every two minutes when I go to the restroom as it is.

I am 34 weeks and 4 days along.

I was NOT a snorer prior to my pregnancy and am wondering if the two are somehow connected. Apparently it has been going on for a few weeks now; however, he finally woke me up the past two nights because he thought it sounded like I was having trouble breathing. I alternate sleeping on my sides (obviously). I will say there are a couple times when I find myself waking up choking on what seems like too much saliva in my mouth. It is the wierdest thing.

I have been having heartburn and reflux off and on but it hasn't really been too bad the past couple of nights. I am fairly little and have only gained like 30 lbs. this pregnancy and my bp and everything is always really low and I exersize (walk) daily - I can't imagine it is sleep apnea.

Anyone have this happen to them? I am almost afraid to go to sleep :).

    Thanks,
    Amy

I've read that snoring is very common during pregnancy, especially during the third trimester. The increase in salivation is also very common (sometimes its a decrease).
I woke myself up a few nights ago because I was snoring (more like a snort). That was weird for me because I've never been one to snore. But I'm still in my first trimester so I don't know if this was the pregnancy or just some one time occurrence.

  3. I've noticed the same thing. Not the choking, but the snoring. I never snored before and am not thrilled that I'm starting now <_<

YES!! As I read your post I chuckled because I can totally relate - I have never, ever snored in my life either until about a month ago; I started to wake my poor hubby up (and myself a couple times) with some pretty awesome snorts and snoring (I'm almost 29 weeks). But all he has to do is nudge or touch me, and I roll over. I was diagnosed with acid reflux about two weeks ago and was prescribed Nexium, which actually seems to be making things a little bit better.

Oh yeah, I can so relate!! ^_^

I have also never been a snorer before this pregnancy. But I've woken myself up too with some big snores!! Also lately I've noticed that I've also been waking myself up coughing! It's almost like the acid in my tummy keeps coming up..or maybe it's the extra saliva at night?

I think mostly we have to grin & bear our discomforts & these strange things that happen to us...

Keep telling myself there's not much time to go!!

Guess what?! I was told the other day that I was snoring so loud that my DH had to sleep on the couch. hahaha, I thinks its sort of funny because he used to do the same thing to me. I really can't believe it, but I know that I have been having some really great sleeps lately.
I think it could be a normal side effect from preg.

Made me chuckle too, I have the the same problem and have been cycling through coughing, choking and snoring at night throughout my pregnancy. This was not a normal nightly thing before I was pregnant. My husband actually had me make an appt with my Dr. to be sure there wasn't something wrong. I was assured it was just a pregnancy thing. Good luck.

I have it really bad too, I literally wake myself up snoring. I think a lot of it is just because my sinuses are always at least a little stuffed up, which is normal in any pregancy. Sometimes I wake myself up to a giant snort, so I wonder if I was breathing! :icon_biggrin:

I snore really bad normally (close all the doors in my house and have tv up loud and you can still hear me) and it got even worse when i was pregnant. There was times i was actually waking myself up it was so bad! Must just be a pregnancy thing! x

LOL! I've never snored before in my life but I've been told that I'm snoring quite loud now! I told DH that if it bothers him he can move to the couch. We've been married for almost 13 years and until this past fall when he got a machine for his sleep apnea he snored LOUD every night. I figure I'm entitled. Payback's a b***h! I also told him that if he values his life he will NOT wake me up. It's hard enough for me to get comfortable and sleep anyway.

So is it bad that I still snort myself awake every once in awhile? Can I blame it on the trauma of a twin pregnancy?

Oh yeah, my DH ended up on the couch many a night while I was pregnant. In his words I snored like a bear. He finally got some earplugs. It's much better now that the babies are out! It really is another side effect of pregnancy...don't sweat it too much.
