    Hi all,

Just wanted to get some thoughts on going to concerts while preggo...I have avoided smokey places thus far during my pregnancy but am considering attending a concert this week. I am worried about a- the smoke and b- the loud noise.
Dh feels I shouldn’t go but I just can’t think that a one-time exposure to smoke would cause problems. I am leaning towards not going to be on the safe side but just wanted to get some thoughts…

    Thanks guys!

well the smoke would be bad for you and the babies and i think the loud music from what i hear can be bad if u are close to the speakesrs--i dont know; myself i wouldnt go if it was in a smoky area-thats just me-but the music if you arent near the loudest sounds i wouldnt worry about that-

Can't tell you what to do of course, but if it were me I'd avoid it mainly for the smokey part of it.

I would say it is fine. I went to concerts and such when I was pregnant with both of my other children and they are fine. It seems you are very cautious and avoid smoke as much as possible so a one time chance for you to relax is important!! I really feel that enjoying yourself and having a night out every now and then is important to your mental well being. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying go out and party every weekend and sit around inhaling secondhand smoke all the time, but it is okay to have fun while you are pregnant. If you are really concerend call your Dr! Enjoy yourself :D .

I would say that it is not a great idea. Second hand smoke is not good during pregnancy, and a high risk pregnancy really isn't one to mess around with. I am not sure about the loud music. I would ask your dr. to be sure.

if its a rowdy concert and you would be in danger of being pushed, elbowed, etc. then absolutely don't go, but if its tame and its a chance for you to relax, have fun!!

I went to a Micheal buble concert when I was about as far along as you. But there wasn't any smoke and the music and concert was pretty tame. I think it all depends on what kind of concert and if you could be in any danger.

I would never go to a smoky area like that while pregnant. It definitely would not be good for the babies or you.

I guess it would depend on what kind of concert...who are you going to see?

    [SIZE=12pt]Hey Kelly,
When I was pregnant with Christopher I went to 5 DMB shows but they were all at outdoor venues so the smoke was a non-issue. Christopher seemed to enjoy the music and my moving to it. I asked my OB about going to a show with this pregnancy and he was perfectly ok with it his only worry being the heat. I think the loudness of the music is not nearly as critical as the intensity of the smoke. I think it's a great way to introduce your babies to your taste in music!

I wouldn't go if it was smoky. As for the loud music, stay away from the speakers and you can always cover your belly with jackets if it does get loud. That's what I did when I was pregnant with Dax and we went to see the Blue Man Group. I also saw Willie Nelson when pregnant but that wasn't loud at all.

I sat in the 5th row of a Stevie Nicks concert when 8 months PG. I worried a little about the noise but it was soooo fun. I would worry about smoke though.

I wouldn't go if there's going to be smoke. You should definitely ask your doc.

I have been to several concerts both in previous pregnancies and this one as well. (With my doctor's blessing, of course) Most places have laws banning indoor smoking and if you are outdoors it won't matter any way. The music, as long as you are not right in front of the speakers, should actually be enjoyable for your baby. They hear your voice much louder than any outside influence so it's really not that big of a deal. That could be different if you work in a very loud environment regularly but a pp said jackets etc can help muffle the sound.
I would say it is perfectly safe, but keep your distance from the speakers.

Oh, and try to enjoy your night out! LOL

I would go, just don't go right up front and avoid the smoke if possible. I have been to shows while pregnant with all of my kids and they're all fine.

Thanks everyone! I ended up not going..first of all I was SO tired from going to a bbq at a local park that day- after a few hours in the heat, I was just wiped.
It was a Guns-N-Roses tribute band, playing at a small indoor venue downtown. I have been there before and the smoke is always bad...no way to avoid it, really. Very loud too, last time I went there, my ears were ringing the whole next day!
Like some of you said, an outdoor venue would probably be ok but I don't think this would have been a good idea.
DH was totally against me going too- he is very protective of 'his kids'. So cute :)
