Ok, I’m not one of those crazy people (well I am but not in this regard)… but my older son use to do this (much older… like 1) and now Nathan has started… my mom calls it smiling at the angels… it’s when a baby looks away from you and no one else is around and then he starts to smile/giggle as if someone was smiling and making faces at him… but no one is around… Nathan probably just discovered the chandelier on the ceiling… but I sometimes like to think he’s smiling at my grandma (who was a twin) or my dh’s grandfather… who would have been THRILLED at twins boys as great grandsons…
Has your baby ever “smiled at the angels?”

Yep - all the time! They used to sit in their swings and stare at the front door...and just giggle and smile. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

And no, you're not crazy! :)

Oh definitely yes they are smiling at the angels! One day when I was alone with the twins and completely overwhelmed I prayed to God and asked him to send the angels to minister to my boys. They were immediately calm. I love the verse in the Bible that talks about the job of angels.

    Hebrews 1:14 (Amplified Bible)

"Are not the angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation?"

I really think they are there to minister to our children (and us)...make them smile and giggle.

NO you are not crazy. I have really been wondering this myself lately. There is one spot in the house inparticular were they do this, the changing table. Even before we had the changing table in this spot they have always looked over here. When they are here no matter how much they were crying before they will stop and smile and coo. Cami does it more than Kyle but he does it too. Since it is my Grandmothers house I have often wondered about them seeing my Grandmother or Great-grandmother (who died in this house). My older DD, when she lived here always said she saw my grandmother and grandfather. I didn't know whether to believe her, I don't believe in ghosts, but angels would be good. My DH always says they are smiling at the ghosts and I always tell him to stop because that freaks me out, but the thought of angels is great. I believe sometimes that that is what they are looking at. The only other thing is that they find the laundry basket, which is ontop of the dresser next to the changing table temporarily, infinitely exciting. Thank you for posting this, I have been thinking the same thing.

All the time and I think its the greatest thing. We lost alot of family members before my boys were born. They would have been huge parts of there life if they were still here so I feel blessed when I see the boys smiling I always like to think "someone" is visiting. Dh has had alot of loss in his family last year and although we were not very close with them I do like to think they are visiting the boys.:)

My boys never did but my nephew did all the time! It was crazy. I know someone who can see people who have died and she actually can have conversations with them. I can tell more but it will make me sound crazy!!!

YES! My oldest used to do it so much that my DH used to tell him "only talk to the nice ghosts buddy." I just noticed my DD doing it the other day and it freaked me out. It's the first time she did it, that I've noticed anyway...I was holding her on my lap, she stood up and was bouncing on my lap, turns, looks over my head and says "bye! love you, see you later" and blows a kiss. That's her new "trick" that she says bye...and we get such a kick out of it that she likes doing it, but this time she was definitely saying it to something or someone and it wasn't me. I have to say though that my mind immediately went to my DH's parents who died suddenly when my oldest was first born. You never know :pardon:

I never realized how common this was!! all three of mine have done this. I've posted before that I think there are spirits in our house (but there are other things too)

My oldest son REALLY did it… he would say at 2 (right when my grandma had just passed away)… “mama… great mama is at the door” (he had no idea she had died)… he came and got me… I said “were Noah?” and he said “look right at the door… she is wearing purple” (her favorite color and he would have NO clue about that as well)… then the tv that I had taken from her house to use in my guest room turned on, with no one in there… scarred my nanny so much she talked about not wanted to baby sit alone for a while… I have more stories as well but… they get less “angle” and a little more “ghost”

Our boys did this a lot! We always said it was their sister playing w/ them. they would even point and laugh.

we've even had interesting photos develop w/ odd angel shapes behind or next to them...a different topic another day...
I like to believe that she is growing up beside them regardless of her 'form'...

My DD does this all the time. There is a specific corner of the ceiling she looks at and just smiles and giggles. I like to think it's my grandma who would have loved to see these babies!

Yes, both Jake & Josh do this. I will have them on my knees in our bedroom and they will both look up to the left and smile like crazy. I tried for the longest time to figure out what they could be looking at. My Mom died 2 years ago this week and I truly believe it is her. I can just see her smiling and laughing at them.

We also lost our dog who was our first fur baby last year. Their room is my DH's old office and that is where Oreo hung out. We have a picture of her in there and they are always looking at it and we tell them she comes in their room at night and gives them doggy kisses.

In some ways it helps knowing they are still with us.

[SIZE=10pt]My two did this ALL the time when they were younger. At first we thought they were staring att a picture frame we had on the wall. We took it down and they continued to stare up there. They would smile/laugh/giggle at that spot continuously.

I like to think that my grandpa was/is there ... making faces and playing with them. :blbl:

Yes, yes, yes, esp Sophie. I ask her if she sees great-grandma and she just smiles back at me.
DH thinks it's creepy though so I don't mention it in front of him anymore. :p

That's what we have always called it. I think it's the most precious thing and would love to know just what exactly it is that gets their attention. It's enough to make you wonder.

Awww- My MIL passed away when I was 3 months pg she was only 46- when they wake up my girls will sit and smile ou the wndow where the sun comes streaming in and we have even moved homes! Recently Sarah (who is named for her grandma) was grinning and blowing kisses out the window! Aww it was so cute. I had never seen her blow kisses! I always say, "Tell granny you love her and you will see her later, we have to get dressed." Then it is like the spell is broken. I love to think she is watching over my girls. She was a wonderful person so, not at all creepy.

Yup, mine smile at everything, the wall, the lamp, the window, whatever and wherever - and sometimes if they are lucky even when they are looking at us!

I think babies see things that we have closed off so we don't see them. I truly believe my babies see their poppa, or feel him and smile. Or at least I like to think that.

It could be nothing or it could be everything
