When do the real smiles start? Is it four weeks? I can't remember. I know odd seeing as I have three other children four and under. The girls aren't even three weeks yet but I swear they're smiling for us. It's when I give them kisses on their cheeks. Maybe just a reflex at this point? I don't know. I remember hearing smiles this early are usually gas but that doesn't seem to fit either.

My girls are JUST now smiling for REAL. They had been having the "gassy" smiles, but I read it is between 6-8wks and my girls started a week ago at 7wks. One of my girls started first then the other followed suit a few days later. Now they are both smiling at us when they first wake up and see us. One of my girls is "cooing" along with her smiles now too...soooooo cute!!!

Isn't it funny.. I don't remember either.. I think mine were closer to 2 months, but I remember there being a time where Austin just beamed up at me and thinking that it was too early for that. Gas or real smiles, enjoy them.. that's the best part in those early days!

Mine started smiling around 4-6 weeks. My oldest however was 3 weeks and gave us a giggle. So it really depends on the baby

I think a lot of it depends on how long they were in utero. I *think* preemies take a little longer to smile intentionally but gas or no gas a smile was a smile for me!

I can't remember exactly when they really started smiling at things they found funny but now (they are 12months, 11 adjusted) they smile ALL the time.

If your LO is smiling, gas or not, it's a smile. :D

It's amazing how quickly we forget... Annabella is 14 months old and I'm having a hard time remembering! I know I did get a smile on camera well before four weeks. That was probably gas! LOL! But I agree-a smile is a smile! I will say probably by around the one month mark we were smiling fools over here! :)
