Last week my husband & I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks 5 days. The babies both measured at a good/similar size and they had perfect/similar heartbeats. However they did say that they were "concerned" about baby B. They said that the sac was very small. As I obsess over the ultrasound picture it looks like the baby takes up half of the sac. Has anyone experienced this? We are going back on Wednesday for another ultrasound. So nervous & I can't stay off the internet.

    1.) STAY OFF THE INTERNET.

We did IVF and transfered two blasts at day five. I went in for my first u/s, convinced there was only one, hoping to goodness there were really two. The nurse and sonographer asked what we thought, and dh and I both said one healthy bean. They agreed.

The u/s started and she showed us our one healthy bean. Then moved around a bit more and said, "Wait! There's another!"

Two little beans in there. As the u/s progressed and our doctor came in...they told us Baby B's sac was two weeks behind Baby A's. It was small. You could see the difference in sizes. Here's a picture, not the greatest, but you get the idea:
    First Ultrasound

You see Baby A in that nice big sac. And then, off to the left, you see(barely) another little sac with no black space like Baby A. That is Baby B. Anthony. Born at 38 weeks.

So, at this u/s, they told us his sac was behind and that if I started bleeding, it was because I was most likely miscarrying. I left there really not knowing much-I knew all of Baby A's stats, but nothing on Baby B.

While telling this story to my coworkers the following day, I was telling them Baby A had a hb of 111 bpm and was measuring on time. And it dawned on me I didn't know anything about Baby B. So I called them up and asked them for info on Baby B. And guess what-everything was fine about that little sac. Great hb. Measuring right on time. I remember asking the nurse more than once about that too. When I hung up the phone, I breathed a sigh of relief. In my heart of hearts, I knew everything was going to be fine.

    And it was.

I suggest staying away from the internet. When I saw my ob at 10/12 weeks for the first time, I mentioned the small sac. She was concerned-because she thought it was STILL small. I assured her no, the sac/fetus was growing just fine now.

Good luck on Wednesday and please keep us posted! :

I agree with Meaghan! Stay off of the Internet!

My first ultrasound with this baby showed his sack was a week behind. The ultrasound tech was just as bad as if I had googled it, she scared me to death. My dr did not seem too concerned he said that he was more interested in the baby than the sac size. I spent 2 weeks obsessing over my pics anyway, wishing that ultrasound tech had just never told me! It makes me wonder how many women who don't even know they are pregnant early have this same issue and don't even know it. I think that some babies just develop at different rates. I also wonder if it could be the angle at which the baby is viewed.

Just try to relax as much as possible, stay off off the Internet people are more likely to post about their bad experiences than the good so the Internet makes things that don't have to be look grim. Try to focus on those sweet little heartbeats!! Oh my goodness what little miracles!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

That happened to us, our baby B had what looked like a significantly smaller sac. At least to my eyes, I think you can see it if you click on my name and see my profile. It turned out to be the angle that they were able to see that baby using the vaginal ultrasound, she looked fine for every other ultrasound after that.

Just focus on what you can control right now to give your babies the best environment to grow and thrive. Drink a lot of water, take your vitamins every day and eat healthy foods making sure you get enough protein in. Remember to get enough rest when you can and stay calm! And yes, I realize how hard that piece of advice is to follow.

    It will be ok!
