We're having a small birthday party on Saturday for the kids. 9 adults and 6 kids probably. Cakes are ordered (way too much cake but I wanted two). Other than that, I'm clueless! The party is at 2 but I still want to offer some kind of food. The two other parties I've been to lately had either pizza or a deli meat and cheese tray and buns. My kids don't really eat sandwiches (they'd eat the buns though), and at least one of the kids doesn't eat pizza. So I'm not too sure what to do.

What food did you serve at your kids' birthday? I wish they were born in Summer, at least we could have a barbecue and it would be easy. I want to get a tray of fruit and a tray of cheese/salami with crackers... what else? It's the first party we're having for the kids really.

    Thanks in advance!

For a 2:00 party? I'd do exactly what you're planning- snacky stuff (fruit and cheese is perfect!) and cake. Keep it simple!

I agree.. what you have sounds great. If you're looking to add more, maybe just a tray of veggies and some chips or pretzels?

Once quick thing I added was croissants. Since I had cheese and meat anyway I had a bowl of sliced croissants with deli mustard and mayo just in case someone wanted to build a sandwich...those ended up being a big hit. But fruit, veggies, cheese, crackers, meats all very acceptable for a 2:00 party! Its after lunch and before dinner so I wouldn't expect more than that If I were attending.

    Have fun!

How about kid food (chicken nuggets, mac n cheese, pb&j etc.) Obviously, if there are no food allergies. My friend did that and the kids loved it. She had made a salad and a pasta dish for the grown ups.

For a 2:00 party, I would just do snacks. All of the kids will have already eaten lunch, so I wouldn't feel like I had to feed them a meal.

I agree with others....for a 2pm party I would stick with snacks. Chips and dips/fruit tray/veggie tray, etc....

At the last bday party, we did a build your own nacho/chalupa bar. Everyone seemed to like it (even the kids).

I agree with all of the others-keep it simple and do snack type foods. If you wanted, you could maybe do PBJ's, and have them cut out with cookie cutters to add a little different excitement...lol... Or you could do mini pigs in a blanket. Enjoy the party~I bet they will have a blast!

I never serve "food" at our parties, too much money, but we usually will do snacks like chex mix or something, with cake and ice cream. I'm too broke to feed a house full of people

Or how about a bunch of cut up bagles with a few different cream cheeses? Other than that I would just do fruit and veggies, and maybe some crackers and cheese.

We had a 3 p.m. party for my kids' 2nd birthday. For food, we did pita chips and hummus, egg rolls, fried mozzerella sticks, and a veggie tray. I thought the food was fabulous! Everything was bought at Costco.

I always find chocolate fountains or fondues to be a great big hit. Easy and delicious with fruit dips.

For my daughter's 2:30 party, we did hot dogs in the crockpot(with buns and ketchup, mustard, and relish), cheese dip in the crockpot (tortilla chips), and a fruit/veggie tray. It was easy, fairly inexpensive, and everybody liked it.

For our 2pm party we did weiner roll ups (we used the Pillsbury dough), a veggy tray with dip and a fruit tray with dip. It was fairly easy, if you don't count burning the roll ups and filling the house with smoke just as guests were arriving. :pardon:
For the previous party I went to a lot of bother to make different appetizers (mostly recipes from Kraft) and found people didn't really go for them.
